DTRL-Turn Signal Swap

I had this mod done today as wel, but i found out that both wires are long enough to swap them without extending.
I just had to peel around to get the wires rerouted the best way.

For the rest good DIY, when i compared the notches on the fitting i could see straight away where you were on about!!

Hmm, glad to hear you don't need to extend your existing wires. Maybe I didn't bother to peel the jacket back? Anyhow, I found the DTRL socket is a little hard to take out of the housing after the swap. What I did was, I trim off about 1/16 " on one of the notches and that works out perfect. I'll post a pic later to clarify.

On the DTRL plug was also a notch that had to be trimmed, just 1mm (don't ask the inch size:biggrin:)
After it fitted good and tight.

But if you look at the back of the headlight unit you can see the main connector, underneath there i found some slack cable hanging around wich just made it long enough to fit.
On the passenger side it was really close but on the driver side went better.

It's dark outside now so now i will go and enjoy my mod!!

And in a few days my 8000K D2S bulbs will arrive together with LED festoonlamps for the interior!

Did it yesterday too. My DTRL LED bulbs are too blue though. Any one know which ones match the best with OEM hids? Meaning more white. I know fxlr8 had a good match if you can pitch in man

The Cree LEDs are pricey at $40 for the pair but are the best LEDs to use for this mod that we have found to date. Its much better than the standard LEDs like yours and what we have used. Plus they look really cool because they look like mini projectors within the housing. They are so much whiter, they sometimes appear slightly purple from some angles. But overall these bulbs are the best looking ones to get and I'm very picky when it comes to the right bulb and color.

Yes, those are the exact bulbs and vendor we got ours from. Also wanted to clarify about my purple comment. They look purple from certain angles because the LED is in a projector, like other cars driving towards you, where their projectors cast off different colors. But they are really white otherwise.

Logan, for the most part, yes, my bulbs are a really close match, like 95%. I think after they've been on for a while, its like close to 100% to the naked eye. :tongue (2):

Well Im willing to spend that much if they match the stock hids and the 4500K DDM fogs I'll be installing soon. It'll be nice to have all three pairs of lights the same color (within 90% at least)

Aerofba - do you have the Cree LEDs on your ride now? If so can you post some pics pls. Thanks

Thanks man. Those look a lot better than mine. So is the link you provided a direct fit or will I need to specify the bulb type at checkout? If so what bulb type is it?

What bulbs are you using for your turn signals that don't look amber from the front? I tried some silver capped auto illumination bulbs, both burned out within 20 minutes and I went back to the OEM's.

Just some standard "chrome amber 7440" bulbs on eBay. I had a bad experience with AL bulbs and will never buy from them again. They made me pay $7 for shipping for replacement bulbs, four separate times because their silly SMD leds burnt out after a few days. So they tell me to reorder what I want as replacement, pay for the new shipping and then ship them the faulty bulbs back to them on my dime?

Sir21, the link to the ebay buld above is the exact one you need. I a bit pricy, but I think it look the best and color matched pretty well. It looks "almost" like a tiny projector in the housing, lol. They are pretty bright, but not blinding to on coming drivers. AreoBFA and I try a few other LED and none come to out liking. You need to bend the contact at the base of the bulb though. The bulb is originally of type 7440, you need to bend the contact from the outter most slot to the inner on both contacts since the DTRL socket is of type 7443 to have it light up though.

Logan, as for the the turn signal it just regular filament bulb with silver coating. AeroBFA order them for me. I'm sure he can provide the ebay seller. I been using it from over 6 months now.
