FX45
i need complete engine for my FX45 2004 and i was told that the M45 engine cannot replace it. anyone knows for sure?
the model of engines, as much as i searched for, is same, VK45DE
anyone has used the M45 or Q45 engine?

The M and Q engines will not fit for your year of FX45. I explored this when running out of engine options when my engine blew. The accessories are mirror-imaged (alternator left on one, right on the other; etc). Good luck finding a replacement. These engines are becoming scarce.

you are the first to tell me why it will not fit. i always got the replies: no it will not!
thanks for the help. since FX45 is really tough to get, i still needd to explore it more. if the accessories are the only problem, can't it be solved? like using the M45 with it's own accessories, or alter the brackets of the accessories to fit. anything else is a problem or only the accessories? what about the atarter?
basically M/Q45 and FX45 uses same block and heads? as much as i read, they are all VK45DE, right?
thanks for the advice guys...
BTW- LS is a great engine, but swapping both engine and tranny with harness, ECU etc, is above 8000$ for low milege combo...

BTW- any other members here using FX45 and happy?

I think Z performance shop rebuild cost around 5k-6k with all the strong and reliable internal parts, wouldn't hurt to ask they would rebuild vq45.

I'm really happy with my 03 FX45 with about 140K miles :smile (2): Only thing is it takes a bit of motor oil. Switch to the Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 seems helps a bit.

VK56 is also an option, custom oil pan, new tranny, AC move, there will be some dialing in but a low mileage 56 can be had for around 2k and the power ugrade opportunities from the Tritan community are substantial.

VK56 is great engine but it is not that easy to get a standalone harness and ECU so i will end with lots of work and quiet high $ project

I still have my 56. The 45 finished up well so I never dove into it, Jim Wolf seemed to think the overall cost would fall into line wil a standard FI build but with tons of upside potential. This is a project that would require planning and cost engineering but you would end up with a torque monster.

thanks Logan. what do you mean by "I still have my 56"
do you run VK56 in your FX45? and sorry for my ignorance, who is Jim Wolf?
all suppliers of engines ask me what is the 8th digit vin and it is "W". what does it mean?
i was told that 2005-2008 FX45 has diff engine then my 2004. is it? and that 2005-2006 M45 has same engine. so confusing! i still did not find any professional guy or company that can give me the details i need, so i will not order wrong engine. i am in Israel and it will be big loss withcost of engine+ shipping and custom.

During my pioneering VK45 build I sidestepped and purchased a VK56 in case the 45 project tanked. at about the same time Jim Wolf Technologies (the maker of he camshafts) stepped up to provide me with an all new engine from Japan and built the motor with the cams/springs in place. I still have that VK56 motor on a pallet. At first I thought about keeping it for another project and now I am looking to sell it as i don't need another project =). Later model 45's have a front loader manifold and a few other small differences (nothing big) than the earlier 45's.

Are to looking to replace the engine with the same engine or save money and possibly find an optional M engine?

I surprised your guys can't tell you. Some my best parts information came from body shops and parts guys at infiniti dealers where they can offer you parts overlays, specific mounting points and parts numbers, you just need to make sure they are knowledgable, best to get second opinions from other shops when you are asking.

thanks. i have sent you PM
In Israel, the Infiniti import by Nissan importer, started only on 2009! so all cars before 2009, including my FX45, were imported by individuals and therefore, do not have any official guy to consult with, so if anyone here does know more about which engine will fit, it will make me happy...

Yes I have, sorry for not checking back. I've been researching what can be done. Some of the details are out of my expertise As I never followed through with the transplant and god forbid we load up a pallet with parts (large parts) then ship them to Israel only to realize that you can't use them.

thanks. if you will have news for me, please let me know. BTW- wherer is the beautiful black grill that you have in your photo, from?
