DMV, kite season is almost upon us!?!???!?

anyone else fly?

I just got into it last year and am hooked. Yes, i thought it was gay and all until i tried it and failed miserably. I got the hang of it and am thinking about investing in a $100.00 kite!

Being the son of a military father, basic aviation piques my intrests. Im still a rank amateur at it but if you'll would like to set a date in March (when the winds will be stronger) and would like to meet down at the monument in DC to fly (with the hundreds of other kite fliers) im down with that.

I see Stylez has started a meeting DMV thread, so im gonna call him out first, lol.

You down with coming out bro?

March would be ideal then. Winds are way too strong now. We just have to keep an eye out for a breezy/sunny day in march. Even if we can just get 4 or 5 guys to come out and try something new, it'd be a start.

I'll continue to up this thread until then. There's a hobby shop off 301 in Bowie that sells quality $20.00 starter kites.

Trust me, you have a sucessful first flight and your hooked for life!

But yes, im in fellas.

Not gay at all. My dad used to distribute for a company out of CO called Skynosaur. You could hook two or three of them together and they would literally drag you down the beach.

I've Indian buddies at work who have kite 'wars'. During the spring in India they have duels and in the finals you take out your best flying kite and glue broken glass to the strings so that you can cut and release your opponents kite. Pretty cool.

For you mid atlantic guys, there is a big NC Kite festival later in summer. Not March or spring, but at Beech Mtn it's always windy!

It's as embedded in the culture overseas, as soccer (futbol) is too most Europeans.

I saw a movie called 'kite fliers' or something like that, and witnessed the combat & strategic kite wars.

I personally ain't into all that, im really just getting the hang of a basic single line kite flying. I find that tt's addictive & relaxing. It can sometimes be as euphoric as a nice work out in the gym, or, as embarrising as not being able to bench 315 in the gym by yourself with others looking on, if you can't get your kite up in the air, lol!

I'm coming out on kite day and will have my 2 & a half year old son with me. I can't stay out there all day, maybe an hour or two to meet & greet with the other forum members (if they do show, lol) and get some flying in myself, granted my son not throwing a tantrum, wanting to leave/needing to be changed, etc etc.

This sounds really cool. I lived in DC for years, and never had a chance to get into it. To be honest, for a while, it wasn't even on my radar.

You guys enjoy!
