DIY oild change void Warranty??

:laugh:Couple quick questions:

1) If i change oil myself instead of doing it at the dealers, would it void the warranty?

2) my fx35 is used, and the last record of oil change done at dealer was 1 yr ago, would that already voided the warranty?

3) DIY oil changes, do I need to reset any computer reminder? If yes, How?

the dealer cannot void your warrenty for changing the oil yourself. The only remainder that needs to be reset is on the main screen and can be reset by following the menu.

If you were worried about the warranty, I would keep the oil and filter receipts just to be on the safe side.

As for the dealer oil change, the previous owner could have taken it to Jiffy Lube instead of a dealer, it doesnt make a difference.

It's easy for me to keep the receipts, but I won't have any from the previous owner though. Secondly, I've seen some arguements like this and the dealer was questioning the quality of the "works" and "shops" to offset their responsibilities.

Dealerships and Insurance company can be hard to deal with sometimes, unless you are an attorney yourself, and too bad I'm not one

Unless the dealer can unquestionably prove that the oil was either never changed and/or had a grossly wrong oil put into the motor, they CANNOT deny your warranty provided that the motor remains stock and unmoded.

If and when you do mod your engine, the dealer has to prove that whatever part/change you did is unquestionably the reason for failure. It is there responsibiity to do so. Also, they cannot void part or all of your warranty for unrelated system mods (i.e void your powertrain warranty for an audio mod, void your engine warranty for a suspension mod, etc.).

Good to know these - Thanks

I have never trusted what the dealership tells me.. When I got my FX last December, they said they had put new brakes all around, changed the oil the week previous.. 1 week later, I decided to change my oil, just so I know it's changed. When I drained the oil, it was dark as sh!t. If the oil change was done like they promised, it wouldn't look like that. I've been around cars long enough to tell that the oil was atleast 2000 miles old. I've also pulled all 4 wheels to check the brakes, it wasn't new.. That is why I can't trust anyone else touching my car, I only take it to a shop when I really have to, like alignments..

give them a chance and they will come up with terms and problems no one has ever heard of. they would love to void all our warranties. that would make their day.

Did you take the car back and get your money back?? That's really bad, and you probably should expose the dealership on here so that the others can be aware of the tricks.

You could have actually taken some legal actions agasint the dealership too!!
