DIY Isimple Aux Mp3 Ipod Connector / Isni 531

i just installed this exact one on my G.

Where did you mount the box? And do you have problems with the plugs coming loose from the box? While doing the install and putting everything back together, i found that cable to seperate from the box a couple of times. I'm not sure if i knocked it or what. I might look into taping things up once i found a secure spot to mount this.

I was looking at these on ebay, the auction says you do not retain steering wheel controls. Is that only when you are playing music through the isimple or you fully lose all steering wheel controls even when listening to radio/cd? Also, does OEM bluetooth still work with the isimple installed?

you can still use steering volume control just not skipping tracks...
as far as bluetooth im not sure for the factory but navi voice still works when playing music so bluetooth
should work but this device does support bluetooth by itself anyways..when you are making or receiving calls...

I installed this on my 2006 with factory XM, the steering controls still work fine, though with the 2006 the SAT control is on the radio button so pressing the track up and down on steering wheel just toggles FM/AM/SAT.

I will say that there are a few gotchas if installing in a 2006 with factory XM:
I had to disconnect the SAT cord AT the tuner under the cargo area in the back otherwise I got no sound.
Also, I hooked it up to make sure it worked, then unhooked the 24 pin harness on the back of the black box - then routed wires and set everything up; but after that it didn't work, because once you initialize it don't unplug it otherwise you'll have to manually reset it: by opening the box and shorting two cap pins (info on isimple site). once that was done I hooked it up and it worked perfectly though the volume is still low which I'm looking to amplify with a headphone amp.

Has anyone figured out how to select when toggling through playlists when the iPod is set to be controlled through the headunit? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

Oh ok. I must've misread the thread. I was under the impression the OP had the iSimple Gateway that allowed the functionality for controlling through the HU

I use iPod mode when I want to impress friends (text display shows on screen),
but it's hassle when I have to control it through the radio instead of iPod.

So I use the iPod Auxiliary mode... which is Auxiliary 1

Any updates from your install?

How is the sound quality? Does it sound lower than usual? (does it need a "volume booster"?)

Did you leave the aux input wires dangling from where the cigarette lighter is?

I am close to purchasing this product and would like to know if I should change anything....

Thanks!

The sound quality is actually excellent.

The wired for mine are hanging by the side of the clock .

They give you like a 3 feet wire and its too long so i only have about 6 inches of wire showing. And my main component is sitting by the gear box?/ shifter box?

Simple and a good device

I hooked mine up the other day and I am only getting sound out of the left side of the car.. If i move it all the way to the right I can hear the music but it is VERY weak.. You run across anything like this?
