DIY H&R lowering

I am interested in the H&R springs and wanted to see if someone had done it themselves. Exactly how long did it take, what type of tools and equipment do you need, the steps and also pictures would be a plus. Thanks a lot.

Sorry about the spelling up top. I bet thats why I have so many readers! LOL.

Can be done with the right tools and time. But I would recommend getting it professionally done for a job like this unless you have experience with suspension mods.

Never heard of HK springs, either way just the basic remove the strut spring assembly. Use a spring compressor remove and replace the new springs. Reinsert the strut assembly. I did my eibach springs without a writeup and you can always ask a fellow fx'er for some assistance. Also make sure you buy the proper size spring compressor, I used a compressor that I had for my VW and it was not big enough.

H&R....sorry. Is it something that can be done in a day for a less experienced person? Maybe with the help of a couple of friends?

With the proper tools it can be done within a couple hours. Rears are way easier since there is no strut-spring assembly.

how long does it take for the springs to settle? How much of a drop? And is it something that I would have to modify anything for since I am not running any body mods or anything? I also have the stock 20's....any rubbing to be concerned about?

No need to be worried about rubbing with the stock oem 20" wheel/tire setup. You should have looked in these two threads if you have not already,

Navy,

I was in the same boat as you and decided to have Midas install the springs for me. I had pretty much all the right tools, but here's something to think about. You probably dont have a lift and will be using jackstands. If something were to go wrong, you dont have much space to work with, so you better make sure you know what youre doing. Truthfully, the $250 that I spent having my H&Rs cut a 1/3 of a coil in the front and having them install professionally, was totally worth the wait.

BTW, if you're on 20's expect a firmer ride.

This link should help explain. But when you lower your vehicle with aftermarket springs you sometimes have to worry about your toe and camber. Camber tends to be on the negative side, meaning your wheel/tire tend to slant outward from top to bottom. After you lower you should have an alignment done and check the the toe and camber specs to see if they need to be corrected to within factory specs.

Just do it! You'll be happy you did.
I have H&R with stock 18's and love the look. Sometimes I wish it were maybe a 1/2" or so lower but still much better than stock height.
And unless you have all the right equipment and know how to do it properly, get it done professionally.

Oh, and I had the elignment done after the install just to make sure that everything was on par. Toe and camber are not issues with H&R, as long as they are right out of the box and not cut even lower.

Hope this helps..

Well I finally got a chance to lower my FX45.

First of all I wanted to thank my friend LEO from the my.is forum in helping me do this mod on my car.

At first I was not happy with the mod. The ride was very stiff and there was a loud clunking noise that I hated. I seriously thought that I had done something wrong and that I had rouined my ride... Nevertheless, I drove it for a couple of hours and now the ride is excellent.

Soft, Smooth and Handles better on the curbs. The overall look of my FX is aggressive and SICK..... (Got allot of compliments on the road)

Secondly, I also wanted to thank Alexus1 for his friendship and help in getting the EIBACH spring kit.

Also can’t leave our Will (psiclne) for stopping buy and bringing us some lunch.

Leo and I started the actual work around 11:30 am and finished around 9:00pm and by the time we finished the front springs we were dead tired.

Front springs took us 4 hours each and 1 hour for each rear springs.

Well here are some pics…
