Display Screen Flicker, then black out. *Video*

Hey guys,

After a consistent 9-10 minutes after start up my screen starts to flicker, then shut off completely. My girl took this video to show it happening.

Oddly, if I restart the car or put it in reverse (toggling the reverse cam), the display will come back on - then clock out after 9-10 minutes. Any ideas??? :disapointed:

I would pull the radio panel and radio out to check the connection behind the display screen.

If i told you that this happens consistently everytime around 9 minutes, flickers twice, then blacks out - Would you still suspect a hardware issue? I'm thinking it's programming related. /shrug.

I changed the settings around for Display yet the exact same thing happens...
 
I would think it either loose cabling or blown power supply capacitor. I take it you're out of warranty, best to have a specialist review it if you're not up for the challenge. Good luck.
 
You right. Since it consistently around 9 minutes it can't possibly be connection issue!
 
Well, thought I would put this out there in case someone has experienced something similar.

I have 2 year powertrain warranty left but I don't think this will fall under that so I'll just need to bite the bullet and have the stealership take a look :eek.:
 
Do you think something is getting hot back there and causing the blackout? I had a flickering screen issue, but mine was due to a loose connection from the aftermarket video switcher. Do you have one of those installed?
 
Ok, well now it blacks out almost immediately and flickers on here and there. Seems more like a loose wire than software.... oddly the back up cam still works very well.

Are those separate cables? Which would then help confirm that this might be a cable issue. Thanks.

I've noticed mine flicker for like a second or 2 before, but it's only happened twice I think.

Going to try to reset the system, then have a mech look into wiring. I really don't want to pay for a new setup like this....

might be more worth it to look into aftermarket. Not sure what is out there to better the OEM system and work with all the same controls.
 
Quick update: It appears the AC and Audio circuitboard quit on me. The part is 650 and the labor is about 200. Sigh.

Good thing it wasn't the lamp/display because that is about 2500. (I know because the back up cam still work perfectly).
 
Wow, really? Just buy the part and swap it out yourself. It's located below the display screen behind the radio panel. Three connectors and two screws, that's all.

How did you confirmed that the AC Amp was bad?

Andy, thank you for that find. If i need to pay out of pocket, I will get the part from here. Cheers.

The mechanic at the broker where I bought this car isolated the issue for me. Right now, I"m trying to get them to pay for the repairs. The screens started to go 2.5 weeks after I took ownership so I believe I have a case.
 
They may take care of it for you. I had all four door locks go on me 2 days after I bought mine and they replaced them all with oem parts no charge. I think there is like a period of 30 days or something where you have a case.
 
Crap. Bad news for me.

Turns out it's the whole display unit that has failed. A new one is about 2300$. I can't afford to fix this, at least not at this cost. Time to look at the wreckers for parts.
 
Update: The Display unit is part of an exchange program for Infiniti. I got a new one for 400$, just had to turn in my broken one. Yay. All is working great now.
