wassup guys i just niticed i have been driving around with a black dirty air filter for about 30k miles could thst cause a problem for me? thanks in advance
Might affect performance depending on how clogged the filter is but regardless you should clean or replace regularly. Here's a good youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdiEoBPkY_8
nah, I don't think a clogged air filter will result in decreased fuel economy, at least in modern cars. The purpose of the MAF sensor is to "balance and delivery the correct fuel mass to the engine".
An engine needs three things to perform efficiently good clean gas, good clean air, and easy flowing exhaust. Any one of those things wrong will significantly hurt the engines performance. Yes by having a dirty filter the engine will not get the power it wants so it will try to add gas to make up for the insufficient air. This hurts horsepower because the fuel to air mixture will not be correct. Filters are cheap. A dirty filter can also leak dust and sand into your engine if this happens it will be a big problem causing bad seals, oil leaks, oil burning, Just get a new filter, or get a cold air intake for it with a cleanable filter

A dirty air filter will not only allow impurities to enter the engine but it can also allow dirt to accumulate in the MAF sensor, which can reduce its effectiveness.
Nothing happened to your engine. It's probably slightly less efficient, but not enough to matter. also, a clogged filter actually filters better than a clean one. FWIW, I found the FX filter to get dirtier than in other cars. Every time I took mine out to replace it, the box was full of dirt and leaves.
