Different Tail Light Idea

So, I've been wanting to do something different with the FX. My idea is to do a black/white theme, or a black/baby blue-ish theme. I was going to do the usual VHT Nightshades on the tail lights, but I had another idea; couldn't I just cut open the lights and paint the bezels white/blue? The LED's are what emit the red lights for braking and such. The bezels are just red because they're tail lights. Thoughts or opinions?...
 
do you got the red tails? i tried painting my bezel black for test and it came out weird and ugly thru the red lense. sports will come out alot better tho.
 
Hmmm... I didn't even think about that. I forgot there was 2 different styles of lights... and I'm guessing most people who cut open the lights are using the Sports
 
If doing a custom job, you may chose to start with regulars or sports. I'm curious about how difficult it will be to take the tail lights apart. Sounds like a good project.
 
Yea, I'll definitely be on the look out for some Sport lights if I decide to do this. I know a couple of guys on here have cut open the lights... I'm sure it's not the easiest thing to do lol
 
Oh sure, use dremel to cut it a part. Be careful not to cut the little clips that the inner shroud chrome that attach it to the backing though and then seal them up with adhesive silicone.
 
As a tip, cut open a set of red lenses too and use the clear side marker lens in place of the red lens of the sport model. The clear lens look is much cleaner inside the sport tails instead of that red side marker and it'll give you a practice set of lenses to cut up before you attack your sport tails
