Items from Hong Kong are a lot better quality wise than products from the mainland China. This opinion is based from personal experience shopping many times from both places in the past. There is this place called Shimshapu (not sure if I spelled it right) in Hong Kong where you find quality anything electronics and car aftermarket parts.

On the other hand. I shopped in Shanghai, Zhanjiang, Haikuo, Hainan, Sanya, and Xiamen- all popular tourist destination in mainland China. Quality is a hit and miss at best.
