Damaged rims during balancing

I had my wheels balanced the other day, and got damaged. Don't know what to do.

My inside's are in pain right now:embarrassed::embarrassed::embarrassed:

It's hard to tell how severe the "damage" is when it's so dirty, but I'd hazard the guess that it is not normal to scratch the wheels during balancing.

It doesn't look too bad but that sucks. I do motorcycle tires at my house with a no-mar tire changer and when I balance them I use a plastic scraper http://www.nomar-secure.com/product_p/ac-scraper.htm to remove the weights (will not scratch). Looks like they used a wide flat-head. The weights look kind of funky also. Looks like their sloped down on the ends. I've never seen that. If I were you I'd clean around it, see how it looks and if your not happy about it give them a call.

The rims don't need to be clean to see that's it scratched to hell:

You can tell they scratched it trying to pry off the old weights:embarrassed::embarrassed::embarrassed:

oooo ya, those pictures explain more. I'd call the dealer asap and tell them...that is BS ! esp on them 20's.

Oooh. That's painful just looking at it. I guess you won't be going back to that dealer anytime soon.

The rims have wide spokes so you can see it real easily.

Very unprofessional done there. Im very suprised a infiniti tech did that.

I just found out the front left side is damaged too. The only ones that aren't are the two back rims.

If it was like a few scratches I'd live with it, but damn it looks like they used paint thinner to remove the weights. It looks worse in person. The inner barrals of the rims are huge since it's the stock 20's, so it's wide enough to see it.

tell those jacka$$e$ to refinish the entire wheel. what was the guy thinking when he did that? must have used a flat head screw driver thinking ..'ooh what the heck!'.

That sh!t is wrong, especially from a cert infiniti tech....Scratch up the other 2 and get yourself a new set courtesy of the hackers.

Do you think they can have it done in the same day? The outer part doesn't need refinished, only the inner barral of the rim. I noticed the inner barral surface looks different than the outer rim.

same day... i doubt it. just like DarkCyde said, if i were you, i would make them look a bit more worse and demand new wheels.

Nah, I'm not damaging them. I'm leaving it the way it is and taking it to the dealer on Monday. Hopefully they will agree to refinish the inner part of the rim they screwed up.

I've had a few friend's tell me already that it's normal, and how you can expect damage when removing them cause their a real pain in the ass to remove. They told me the stock balancing weights are actually glued to the wheel.

It definitely does happen (wheels getting damaged during balancing), but is not suppose to... And the shop should be held responsible for any damage that does occur. If this was a normal, expected thing then dealers would definitely have you sign a waiver saying they are not responsible for any damage that occurs. Sorry bro, what a pain in the ass. My dealer has done some damage to my car as well, but usually too minor to make a big deal about.

That totally sucks Aaron, it should NOT have happened, but seriously that can be fixed quite easily. I have repaired the inner barrels of rims that were worse than that and when I was done they looked like nothing had happened, and I did it in a day.

Did the dealer repair it for you? Was it your stock 18's?

I noticed the the inner rim is like a different color than the outside. They don't have to do the entire outside when their only doing the inside right? Thanks!
