As as former owner of a '05 FX35 - one of the (many) changes (fixes?) that I welcome are the speaker covers; formerly covered with mesh-cloth; updated to decorative, ribbed-plastic on the QX70. Far easier to clean - but word of caution! The ribbed plastic ridges of the dash speaker covers are very thin and can easily be damaged.
Case in point; shortly after purchasing my QX70 a few weeks ago, the dealer had to have the windshield replaced because they sold the CPO vehicle with multipe chips/nicks in both the driver's line of sight & passenger. (Since I was armed with the CPO check-list where the windshield was deemed "okay" - I insisted on a new one). However, when the installer replaced the glass, the tools used pressed against the dash speaker covers, resulting in the "mashing" of the thin ribbed pastic. (Photo attached).
BTW, the QX70 speaker cover alone cannot be replaced; Infiniti informed me the cover and speaker are all-in-one, so dealer having to replace both dash speakers due to the damage caused upon new windshield installation.
