Was going to go 5000 miles between changes (up to 7500 allowed for schedule 2) given that most of our driving is highway. But looking a it today, it was so dark I couldn't go without changing it. Are others seeing dark engine oil after so few miles? Seems odd especially since it takes 7 qt rather than the usual 5 for most cars. I have 37000 miles currently.

Oil will get dark after 3,000miles, depending on how aggressive you drive & depending on how long you go monthwise. I usually change mine every 3,000 even tho i use mobil1 sythetic. And it takes me almost 6-7 months to get to the 3,000 miles and mine comes out slightly dark. Now i did my 1st oil change on my qx70 at 4,000 miles and it came out dark! Most high end Sythetic oil says you can do up to 7,000 miles. I actually have customers that use it up to 5,000 and then change it and they never had a problem. Personally i woudnt trust going that high since it gets so dark

Also, I assume you changed your filter?
Not only that but some of the old dark oil will carry over to the new as well.

This right here. You can send them samples and determine if the change interval you do works with your engine and oil. I used to do 3500 mile changes, then I sent in samples until with additional mileage I realized to go up to 5000 miles and not see any extra wear.
