Cut antenna mod

Just sharing another mod I decided to do.

The cut antenna mod.



Cut it.




Shape it, what I did was round the end with the dremel or some sandpaper and then I finished it off with some 2000grit sandpaper.




Finished product. At the very top of the antenna you will have a little white piece of plastic showing in the center...all you have to do is put some black paint on the very tip.






I tested the reception and it seems to be the same. Do this at your own risk or buy an extra mast to play with.

By cutting the antenna, you are changing the impedance of it, which can drastically change its effectiveness... I would think twice before doing this mod. Just my $.02.

i remember reading somewehre that the fx pulls its reception from two points (whichever happens to be stronger at the time) anyone know if this is true... looking for new mod but being unemployed (see "running out of money") and having done most of the cheaper mods, im running out of things to do

I read that also - I believe it was on the Org. I believe the other one it built into the windshield.

No John, that is for the factory radio. The oem xm has its own pimple at the rear .

Yes, the fx has two radio antennas... one in the front and one built in the rear window..the radio selects from the strongest signal.

yeah, I looked it up. your right, the roof horn is the main antenna & the rear window is the sub antenna. there is also an antenna amp for both. I think this is nissans diversity antenna scheme.

I drove my fx for a little while without the horn & had good reception without it completely, so I guess cutting it ain't so bad... I guess

As nice as it looks if it's going to effect my XM i'm not doing it.... I have Can't live without my XM radio!!!

The xm antenna is totally different from the fm/am antenna.

I can honestly tell you the only time i have ever used the AM/FM in my car is for the FM transmitter for my ipod and that has long been used.
