Custom window shades

Hey all FX owners with children. I just made a custom window shade that blocks out 95% of the light for the back windows. It was so difficult to find shades that would work for the FX and it's oddly shaped windows. Let me know what you think. It's made from nylon. While keeping sun out of the childrens' eyes, it also keeps the car cooler and covers the back those "peekers" who want to see what's in your car.

interesting, is it see through at all? Doesn't look like it.

btw i like how this isn't a flying projectile in case of an accident.

I used to have the suction cup roll down ones until I realized if the flew off the window, the sun shade would become very dangerous.

also, not clear to me if there are two included for both left and right. "Placement on Vehicle: Left, Right, Rear"

Not see through at all but working on a flap to pull up when children aren't back there. Those windows are pretty useless anyways as far as driving goes- just a little different.
It is very light weight, it has 2 dowel rods; one on top, one on bottom so it maintains a, somewhat, frame. They are sewn a certain way so if they are accidentally broken, you can replace easily. Those would snap easily if needed to, as well. The suction cups aren't that difficult to deal with as i've seen on others shades. There are 2 on the bottom that could come off and you could roll the window down if you needed it.
I was getting tired of nothing working because of the odd shape and the slant that allow the sun to shine through. It's essentially like a kite.
I made the eBay listing fast because I couldn't post a pic on here like I wanted and didn't know of any file sharing sites to use for that. It is for both rear windows.
No way to post a picture directly on here is there?

Pretty nice, but it looks like you need to keep the windows up.....these have suction cups

The suction cups are easy to put on and take off. Windows up for the shade. All the "mesh" ones out there allow too much light to enter and covered 1/4-1/3 of the window . Sucks. This style can be done for any window essentially, just need to know the measurements. You think of a lot of stuff to do when you have been out of a job...even sewing :embarrassed:.
The car of choice with children is the QX, as far as Infiniti goes it seems like. But, for those of us who didn't want to spend an extra $20-$30k more, we settle with the SUV that drives like a sports car . Dad's get to have fun, too. Mom has the G37 convertible though, "for work purposes" lol.

Nice! I've been using a retractable pair from Baby R Us and they're ok in regards to coverage, but yours look great. Either the curtain idea sounds good or the ability to allow the shade to retract when the window is rolled down. I'd prefer the latter, but I'm not sure how it could be tethered to the base of the window.

very innovative!!! :wink (2):
what if you could make it into this, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2pcs...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

i recently bought one so my wife and daughter can stay cool in the back, but not really satisfied because of the measurements, im kind of a perfectionist. if you can come up with this, i'll be the first one to buy it.

Jayfx35,

Thanks for the compliment! I checked out that curtain shade and wasn't too impressed. Truthfully, I hate taping anything to my vehicle! It doesn't work well in the heat and the residue it leaves is hard to get off without taking much of the car off as well if fixated on the rubber, metal, or leather. This looks like a time consuming install and you really couldn't take off and re-apply on a new window without adding more tape. That's one of the reasons why I came up with this shade. I originally bought the retractable one that didn't fit at all from Babies R Us and then scrapped that. Next, I bought 2 of the suction cup ones that were rectangular shaped and had to tape 2 together to cover just about 3/4 of the window. Those were cheap and it was still bright for my baby.
What about being able to roll it up from the bottom into velcro loops attached at the top? The windows don't go all the way down anyways, unless you have a mod to correct that. :nerd (2): Still thinking of some other ways as well...one will work, eventually.
I'm a little of a perfectionist, too, especially when i'm building something. It definitely keeps the car cooler and helps on car trips so they can nap with little light while traveling during the day. Let me know if you have any other ideas, I will try my best.

Highwind,

Are the retractable ones you got cover just the middle of the window if you kind of slant the tube? We had the sesame street one and had to try multiple ways.
I can find a way to roll it up, but it would be tricky to have the window roll down without you taking anything off. The slope on the window is a little to much to have it attached to the top and just hang down. Tethering to the base of the window would be hard as well. It would be nice if there was a strong enough magnet that could be attracted to a screw or piece of trim thru the leather, etc. yet so small it wouldn't be a flying hazard if there was a collision. Like my previous reply, I don't like tape or any adhesive on my vehicle! If it was a 80-90s inexpensive car, I wouldn't mind :tongue (2):.
I'll play around and see what I can do.

Thanks for the compliment, too.

Finally posting a cell pic (sorry for the quality) but this should give an idea of the coverage from the baby r us one. The bottom was unclipped since we had just rolled down the window before the pic. When we have it attached at the bottom, we just need to move the window down and then up a little to separate the cup, then we can roll it down without binding.

Audi also has the DTRL for their vehicles in the States as well. It's those little things that make the ride even better. Mercedes has had the shades for a few years as well. Not sure why Infiniti is a bit slower with the accessories and look.
