Cruise Control - Would not engage

Hello All ...

I did a search and couldn't find any answers, so I'll post it up now ...

Today I was cruising in my 2007 FX35, with 61k miles, AWD. I was traveling down the highway, and I went to put on my Cruise Control. I turned it on, and went to set my speed at 75 or so. The main "Cruise" green light activated. As soon as I went to set the speed, the "Set" light illuminated, but then started to flash. My cruise control did not function. The "Set" light would just continually flash, without ever engaging the Cruise Control.

Since the cruise control did not want to function, I turned it off and on, again and again I did this. Nothing would get the cruise control to work. The "Set" light still would just continually flash. I finally got to where I needed to go, and I turned the car off. I let it sit for an hour and started it back up. Same problem persisted. After about the third time I shut off the car and started it. The Cruise Control functioned properly.

Seems like I may have a sensor or electrical problem. Anyone else have or dealt with the same problem?

Any Info would be great ... Thanks in Advance ....

Clean your sensor. If your wipers are moving fast, it would not work also. BTW this happened to me also last weekend and i discovered that if you hold the on of button for like 5 seconds, you can bypass the intelligent cruise control and it will become normal cruise control.

Thanks Viperi .... Couple things though,

I don't have the intelligent cruise control on mine. Just the regular cruise.
Secondly, if I did, what sensor are you talking about? Location?

I think cruise might not work with VDC off. Also, did it start after the recall? I didn't know non-ICC vehicles could get the recall.

My bad ... The VDC was ON ... I did not manually turn it off. They did the recall, cause my speedo discrepency went from 4 mph off to 2 mph off, along with them rolling 3500 miles off the odometer.

Figuring it's just a little Gremlin for now ... don't feel like spending extra money right now to fix it, if it's a simple fix myself.

Called the dealership today, to see if they had any ideas what it might be, as I can do some automotive stuff.

They said it is usually one of two things that cause this:

#1 - Cancel Switch sticking on steering wheel ...
#2 - Cruise cancellation switch controled by brake pedal acting up.

They of course recommend I bring it in for some dionogstics first ... lol

Something similar has happened tome. I just recently bought a 2007 FX35 (RWD). My Cruise will not engage over 60MPH. I have turned off the ICC, for normal Cruise Control, and it still willnot engage above 60mph. The Cruise DOES engage at lower speeds, and when I tryto increase the speed setting to over 60mph, it disengages, both with the ICCon and off. I am confused on what Cruise Control Light should appear and when theyshould. The manual is confusing on this part. In my manual page 5-43 says thatthe green “CRUISE” light is the warning light, not the Orange one!!
Anyway, when I press the on/offswitch the green “CRUISE” comes on. The green “SET” light only appears when theICC is off AND is in Conventional mode. (At least I think it is in Conventionalmode).
With the ICC on, at lower speeds,it seems to function fine. The MPH are displayed, the little car appears whenthere is a car in front of me (not sure how this works either) I have noflashing or other warning lights on. There are no bad blubs; they all work whenin Accessory mode. I’m at a total losson this. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

If the cruise control is vacuum operated like on other Nissan models.......a vacuum could have popped of thus disabling the cruise function.

I had this problem (when I turned on the A/C....nothing but hell hot air came out). Noticed my cruise didn't work, took it to the dealer for a diagnostic.....and the tech said first pop the hood & turn on the A/C which short after the air began to cool down.....he found a vacuum line disconnected. On the way home I tried the cruise......& it engaged.

I didn't know the cruise, on the FX, will not work over 90mph. I must try it tomorrow after work.

Can anyone post a picture of where the sensor is. My fx was previously plasti dipped I think it has paint on it. When I press the cruise control it just beeps. And both light stay on but nothing happens

If you have the ICC, the sensor is behind the front bumper in the lower grill. It's very easy to see, near the tow hook and it's obviously a sensor. It looks like a camera.
