cracked my windshield

Location
kansas
Need to replace my windshield, caught a rock yesterday, looking for any input for what or who to stay away from. Should I contact the dealer or is this windshield nothing special & can be handled by a local glass co.
Thanks

Unfortunately for those of us with LDW, we need the OEM glass for the cutout in the tint for the camera. Prices for that one are through the roof compared to the non LDW glass. Of course you could get the non LDW windshield but you lose the LDW ability.

You can get both from a auto glass repair shop and you can get a aftermarket or the oem both with or without the LDW option. But if you have the LDW option then the windshield will be 3x more $$$. But the install will probably still be cheaper then at the dealer. Perhaps you can get it covered under your insurance plan for the LDW windshield. I had my front windshield replaced without LDW for less then $200.

If you have windshield endorsement on your insurance, it should be covered under that coverage.

My wife (internal auditor for AAA) says that all automobile windshields are manufactured at the same place with million distributors. I guess you need a special license and certification from DOT to manufacture this stuff.

thanks guys, I plan to call my ins. Monday, & i'm sure they will cover it, but still gonna cost me my 250.00 deductable. Glad you mentioned the LDW ayia, I hadn't thought about that.
