Coolant leak and noise

I have a 2003 Fx35 with 90,000 on the clock. There seems to be a coolant leak on the drivers side part of the block right below the a/c unit. It's def. coolant as you can smell it and it is green. what is on this side of the block that would leak coolant (Thermostat maybe)?

Second problem is almost like a knocking noise coming from the front of the engine. It's not like rod knock or anything. I was thinking maybe a bad pully/harmonic balancer or maybe a bad water pump?

Plus my Bose sub went out.

Any ideas or should I go back to a Lexus

Do you want to figure this out yourself or pay somebody to do it? Take it to a shop or the dealership if you don't want to deal.

If you don't mind trying to figure it out yourself or here, If you can see where the coolant is coming from, that would help a lot. Even photos if you want help with the diagnosis.

You might need to put the front up on jack stands, take off the plastic bottom skid plate and see if you can find where the leak is coming from. Hopefully, it's just a cracked hose and it just needs to be replaced. Not surprising with 90,000. My 04 has 104,000 and I just replaced all the coolant hoses last month. It's not a tough job, just a little scary. I used advice from here on the scene and on youtube and did it myself.

How is the coolant level in the reservoir? Check it each day to see if it's dropping. Maintain the level above minimum until you can get it fixed.

As for the knock, can you open the hood and watch the engine while it is making that knock sound? It could be one of the pump bearings going out, causing the pulley to jump around a little. If that is the problem, need to replace that pump (power steering, A/C, alternator, etc).

Sounds like it would just be easier to take it in and explain what's going on. Depending on what they tell you, decide if it's worth it.

Regretfully I don't think it's a hose. I did take off the bottom skid plate and I still can not verify where the leak is coming from. I even took off the intake piping (rigged the intake so the car could run) and couldn't see anything darn A/C condensor. Maybe it's coming from the termostat area and running down. I was going to try and figure it out myself but as of this moment it is pouring out and I don't have the time to look at it so off to the mechanics it goes.

I just like to play around as fixing stuff. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm the same way. I like to know that I couldn't figure it out before I go to the dealership. Sometimes I even try out a couple things, not caring if it costs me a couple extra bucks. The learning experience is worth it if I know I'm not going to do any worse damage. Just depends on what the problem is.

Good luck - hope it's something simple.
