Considering 04 FX35/45 or 07 Murano???

Hi guys,

Moved to Moscow for about a year now and decided to get an SUV this time. Do not want to spend so much money on a newer FX37 vehicle here as I do not know how long will I be in this motherland ;P

Anyways, I am considering a 07 Murano and a friend suggested 04 Infiniti FX. Due to the age, they are both similar priced now. An 07 Murano is the last model therefore, most bugs have been fixed.

What do you guys think about the 04 Infiniti FX35/45(10 years old)? Will they be as reliable as the 07 Murano (7years old)?

Cheers!

Well for the looks and performance and whatever the reason i would pick FX over murano~~~

But seems like ur concern may be reliability ~ in that case i cant really choose but u have seen both cars take a good test drive and choose the right one~|~

Good luck!

I own 2004 FX45 and the car is running strong with no issues since I had it, and is over 100K in mileage now. Older car doesn't necessarily means you will have problems just like a newer car doesn't indicate less issues. It's all about how they were up kept and serviced and when you look at both, which do you think is in better shape. Design wise I say FX, equipment wise you will get more standard features on the FX than Murano. When the car was introduced in 2003, to make it appealing and boost the sales, Infiniti packed it with number of standard features that after 2005 some of them became add ons.

Again both cars are pretty much the same, based on the frame etc etc, it's all about the esthetics and looks in one hand and performance/mechanical on the other, Follow your gut and the right car will be yours.

Good luck

For what its worth I would say FX over murano. They are NOT BASED on the same frame, the FX is built on the g35 chassis, with independent four wheel suspension unlike the murano that has a solid rear similar to the quest model mini van. Even though they look similar they are miles apart under the surface. In addition I believe the FX will hold its value better after stacking on some miles. As mentioned above its all about upkeep and maintenance. There are plenty of members here that will prob agree, higher miles on an FX mean nothing, as for the murano, do some research, my 02

It's based on a larger platform so theoretically should be a little bigger. I doubt it would be hard to find the exact values though for comparison.

FYI, FX with rear seats up has very little room in back. Stroller & a couple bags.
With the seats down it can carry quite a bit

Nissan Murano: 32.6 cu.ft. interior cargo volume
Infiniti FX:
27.4 cu.ft. interior cargo volume

So Murano wins in cargo space, other than that rest of the interior (passenger area) is pretty much the same. Exterior wise, FX is slightly wider and a tad longer than Murano.

FX hands down on all around performance + aesthetics. FX is rear wheel drive, independent suspension, lots of available aftermarket performance parts. Murano is front wheel drive based. Forget about mods, nothing much to throw in there.

Lastly, would you prefer driving around in a Murano and stare at an FX that flew past you and ask I should've?

They make an FX34 in Russia?

Hia, sorry was a typo =)

Updates. Just came back test driving an 06 Murano and while it does feels very very comfortable to drive, I noticed there are some rusting around a corner of the sunroof. Bad paint job from Nissan???

Plus, I noticed that the centre console of a EDM Murano is slightly difference than USDM.

I will be checking out FXs by tomorrow. Any potential rust on the FX that I should be aware of? Moscow flood their streets with salt!

More about me, I am a married man with no kids and only will be probably in 2 years. Also, I will be doing mostly city driving and 1 long trip per year (1,000 miles). Would it be silly to own a FX45 that is bad on gas?

I just talked to a guy today with an 04, I told him nice car since I have an 04 as well. He told me he just hit 340,000 miles and I gasped. He said he never had any major issues, just standard maintenance and it is a great car. I told him I had 80,000 miles and he gasped! These cars are solid built, inside and out.

Not sure about the Nissan murano. Personally I think the fx looks better and the sporty feel and HP make it so fun to drive. +1 FX

I've owned two muranos, an 05 and an 09. Basically the murano is an Altima with AWD and a cvt. the cvt is basically designed for fuel economy over sporty driving. The transmission is the muranos handicap if you want spirited driving. The FX is basically a G sport sedan but bigger and will give you much better driving pleasure. Besides smaller cargo area compared to murano as was mentioned above, transmission and sporty suspension. It's the same car basically. Almost have to ask, Altima or G sedan

You will love the FX. Trust me! I sold my g35 for the FX to have an SUV that I can drive in inclement weather and have the sportiness of the g35. This was a win win situation. Every now and then, I have people stop by and take pictures of my FX, because it looks different (exotic) than any any other SUV on the road!

Hi guys, guessed I owed an update. Anyways, I am inclined to put a down payment yesterday until I the news broke that Russian troops were already in Ukraine. Guessed I should play it safe and in case the embassy summons to return home =) (rather radical though)

SO, FX or Murano or not, we shall come back to this in coming months now. Thanks for everyone's input.
