Cold Start in morning problem

I'm glad you are happy with your FX. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone. Ask the other guys with this problem and see how they feel. You think this is funny.

Q7 sucked. I test drove it. I was gonna get a loaded one plus s line. FX50 is so much nicer inside out. Q7 is just a glorified Volkswagen. I know some guys with Q7 an it's in the shop lots for expensive problems. Good luck with the expensive soccer mom minivan! Lol

i hate seeing these cold start problem threads.
i bought my '06 fx about 3 weeks ago but haven't been driving it yet. my '07 bmw 335i just drove away with the new owner tonight, the plates are on the fx and tomorrow is day 1 of full time driving.
i've started it a handful of times in the driveway during the cold weather and am unfortunately stuck with this problem...
perfect, it's my daily driver & i bought it in place of the bmw for lower ownership costs with baby #2 on the way!!

... Again, my theory is 2006 fx35 has an inherent ignition problem.

This reminds me of my all time favorite Tweet from "shit my dad says". It goes something like this:

"Did you go to medical school? Well I did, so keep your dog shit diagnosis and let me see your foot."

I find the "it's just a Nissan" argument to be funny. Not the overall issue.
...

+1. The funniest part IMO is that Infiniti's ARE made by Nissan, but who the hell cares? It's not like Nissans burst into flames the second you drive them off the lot. In fact historically speaking they are extremely reliable cars. The reason his FX is having issues isn't because of the ties Infiniti has to Nissan Motor Co, it's because the FX is an intensely complex machine, and machines do two things; They work, and they break down. It would be one thing if the same part was repeatedly being replaced and then breaking (cough, AudiIgnitionCoils, cough), but the real problem here is a failure to correctly diagnose the issue. If anything he should be pissed at the techs who can't figure out what they should be fixing. To which I would say "If you don't like the Infiniti techs, take it somewhere else."

No sense these venting sessions make don't.

...

Your Audi is just a VW with a jacked up price...

Now now, two wrongs don't make a right...

did the dealer cover the spark plugs or it came out of ur pocket?

I had OEM battery for 5 years which had no problems at all.
I just changed the battery this year to Interstate MTP-35 due to its age just in case to prepare to winter.
As for the Spark Plugs, I changed those a few weeks ago because oil got on the spark plugs. Dealer replaced my valve cover due to oil leak under the powertrain warranty so I told them why not just replace those spark plugs as well while replacing the valve cover. Plugs were burnt and had oil on them.
So I think it is a good idea to check your spark plugs to make they are ok.
Make sure you do this before your powertrain warranty goes expire.
I heard it is common for FXs and Gs to have leaking valve seal as it gets weared out.
The issue with valve cover and spark plug was basically engine was misfiring a lot.
Now it runs like a beast.
The only hassle chaning spark plugs is that there is a lot of labor to get into where spark plugs are. So I thought while changing the valvue cover it is a good idea to change those plugs just in case and I was right.
Hope this helps!

Sometimes I wish Nissan made an FX equivalent.

Well Nissan sort of does. FX is based off the 370Z frame. If you want just a plain SUV then get the Rogue or something. If you want a sporty luxury SUV with car handling then get the FX. Notice there is no Infiniti 370Z. If they created everything exact between Nissan and Infiniti then there would be no need for Infiniti. On top of that, let's say they did make a Nissan FX....the FX we all come to love with a $10k lower price tag would have lower quality inside and out. I love the FX. If Nissan made it, who knows I could potentially hate it. Sure I would want the same for less but it doesn't work like that always.

There are massive differences between the two not like domestics where just small differences. Take this one simple but drastic difference: Nissan cars are front wheel drive by standard. Infiniti sedans are rear as base standard. They are very different, different enough then some other manufacturers that just slap on a new badge and change a console and body.

Infiniti is RWD because it's mostly FM platform, aka the 350/370Z. G, M, FX, EX are all based on it. That leaves the QX which better not be FWD or someone would need to be shot!

If the FX were a Nissan, it wouldn't be cheaper, it would be right-hand drive.

The FX is the only infiniti that does not exist in Japan right now as a Nissan... Infiniti is a brand name invented by Nissan, for the US market. The biggest differences are the badge and the location of the steering wheel. If Americans in the late 80's were willing to spend luxury car money on a high end car with a Nissan badge, Infiniti wouldn't even exist.

Me Again... Update on starting problems

Well, took my 06 FX35 into the Infiniti Dealer here in Atlanta and after 8 days of trying to figure out why my car would not start, they decided to replace the ECM. This seemed to have solved my issue until 2 days ago. Went to start my car and it fired right up, however, the RPMs were all over the place for a good 5 seconds. The next morning, yesterday, took me 3 tries to get my car to start. On the second try, my car started and then went dead. This morning it took me 5 tries. Try 3 and 4 the car went dead and on try 5, it fired up but RPMs were everywhere. This is ridiculous. I have a $13K Toyota Corolla that when I put my key in and turn, I starts every time.

Been having this problem intermittently... But I am in NewEngland with winters days that are normally below freezing. engine would catch, chug, with low rpms. My solution, just give it some gas... and it then motor catches fine. Is there a problem with that solution? because it has worked every time so far...

i've been doing the same thing. the first bunch of times i just let the car do what it wanted to do and what it wants to do is stall & then not restart. i give the gas a light tap, it jumps to 2k rpms and is good to go. i'm sure we will get conflicting opinions on how it's "bad for the engine" etc etc....but it's also "bad" to warm up a car, among many other that are bad for the car. it's definitely much better than letting it stall out and getting stuck somewhere for an undetermined amount of time and hoping it restarts!

i don't see how it should hurt the engine badly by slightly tapping on the gas. it's no different than driving immediately after firing the car up and in modern vehicles it no longer recommended to let the car idle for long. keep on doing as long as it works out for you. now if you start flooring the pedal upon start up then we've got a problem.

People with Audi's have some serious problems. Ohh and if Infiniti is just a Nissan, then your Audi is a dressed up VW. And a Bentley is a dressed up VW, and a Rolls Royce is a dressed up BMW, and this list can go on and on.

Audi builds some sweet cars, but Infiniti build better reliable cars. Seriously you know nothing cars.

I'm fed up with this. Someone has one problem with a car, then somehow now the whole car brand is bad. Then they say I'm switching over to this car brand because they don't have problems. Then they switch over to that car brand and start developing problems with that brand and start whining about how that brand is bad. Seriously people, all cars have their own problems PERIOD. Stop whining for a change and accept the fact that your going to end up spending money on a car sometime in its life whether you like it or not.

And seriously price doesn't justify problem free. Oh your $13K Corolla never had any problems. Who really cares? A $200K Mercedes CL65 AMG has problems, and that car costs $200K. Again price doesn't mean jack for dependability/reliability.

Yeah I said it....

Just a quick update. I have a plenum spacer on the fx. It came with a on/off valve to stop the flow of coolent to the throttle body. In temps below 50 deg it has to be open and above 50 deg closed.

I had mine closed and totaly forgot about the valve. I opened it up and also cleaned my throttle body and everything seems to fire up good in cold startups so far.
