I have a question on QX70 paint. I bought a 2017 QX70s and it has some minor swirls and water spots. took it to a detailer for paint correction and sealing. He advised me the car has a self healing clear coat and can not be buffed out die to soft finish of clear coat. Is this correct and how have any of you handled this? I have a 2006 fx35 that I have buffed out with no issuses but it does not have this soft clear coat.

I think they only had the self healing paint for 1 or 2 years... Pretty sure they're not still using it or those swirls would have fixed themselves...

Water spots should be able to be removed with a vinegar wash... As for the swirl marks, I've been told that paints heals itself under warm / hot conditions... Maybe use a heat gun carefully on some spots to see if it'll help the "healing" process?

The paint on my 2014 is pretty shitty. Tons of swirls and light scratches. I have a few chips where it appears the paint fell off in chunks/flakes. Even a few places where there doesn't appear to be any clear coat at all! But I don't really care. If my QX lasts me 10 years it'll pretty much be worthless when all is said and done. I care more about the drivetrain.

There is a clearcoat, but Infiniti did away with the self-healing variety after the first or second year. I recall when I purchased a 2009 (first of the new model FX) and the salesman proved how it worked by running a key against the tester. When I returned a few years later, the salesman said the self-healing sealant claim was a thing of the past and he would never advise using the same key trick. Swirls and water spots are easily removed. If you are up for it, purchase an orbital machine and do it yourself. Tons of how to vids out there and it is really simple. Plus, you will save $$ as swirls and scratch marks will always occur over time.
