Cleaning Wheels (Winter Filth)

With the winter starting to wind down I'm trying to get my wheels cleaned up. From the road sanding up here in Alaska I have dried sand, almost like a light concrete on the wheels. So far they're just not coming clean with dish soap or WD40. Does anyone have any ideas about getting these things safely cleaned? Thanks, William

are you trying to clean OEM or aftermarket wheels? asking because dont want to damage the face of the wheel depending on it's material...

Good question, I should have included that in my original post. The wheels that need cleaning are Stern Hyper Beasts. The area that got super grunged was the outside perimeter of the wheels. Do any of the commercial wheel cleaners actually work? Thanks, William

Maybe you should step up the cleaner to a wheel cleaner. I use an all wheel cleaner to be on the safe side. I'm sure there are other good wheel cleaners out there.

I would suggest you try Sonax Wheel Cleaner - Full Effect...the stuff is amazing.

I have a 2005 FX35 with OEM 20 inch wheels...

After Infiniti had replaced my seized caliper, pads, rotors I noticed "rust" all over the wheel. They "cleaned" the car twice and it seems they are not cleaning the wheel.

I wanted to clean it with baking soda/vinegar.... Would that damage the wheel?
What material is the OEM 20'smade of?

Aluminum or Alloy?

Sonax is best for those German vehicles that love to make brake dust. I'm looking at you Audi, BMW, MB, Porsche. Makes sense that it's a German product also.

Best way I found to use it is spray on, let it work for a bit, rinse off, wipe off to get what's leftover and then rinse again. You definitely don't want to let it sit too long, especially since it can get on the rotors.
