Clanking sound from front suspension

I've recently begun to notice a clanking sound coming from my front suspension when I go over certain bumps. I've got 50K on my FX and installed H&R springs and a GT-Spec STB about a 6 weeks ago. Any ideas what it could be? I'm thinking of having the struts, strut mounts (not sure if this is part of the new strut assembly or a separate part) and shocks replaced so I can start with a clean slate. Is this overkill? I'm taking the FX in next week to have both of the rear GT-Spec braces installed anyway so I'm going to have them take a look at it and see if they figure out what the problem might be.

hi i had the same problem after installing my h&r .. looked all over the car and found that it was the stabilizer link . there are two one on the driver side and passnger side i changed both of them and the sound was gone .. it was the one on the driver side theres a ball on the link that goes bad try that , there about 38.00 ea:wink:from the dealer

Thanks for the info, I'll order a pair today and have them swap them out when I take it in for the rear brace install. Hopefully that will take care of it.

Sheesh, thanks man.

I replaced almost EVERYTHING except that. I got the clank and was like WTF!!! I thought it was the lower control arm. It went away but came back so cleary it wasn't that.

You are a life saver.

no sweat it took me some time to find also we are here to help each other:tup:
how much was install if you don't mind me asking. 1 hour of labor each side?

I only have it on the driver's side -- you recommend changing both sides?

I just ordered a pair of links from infinitpartsusa.com. I was debating ordering the bushings as well but didn't. I may call them and have them add a set to the order just to be safe. Thanks again for the info doeboy, much appreciated.

I have the same problem but haven't fix it yet , my job sent me to Canada and haven't get back.. Luckily before I left I was driving my girl's car.. I'll fix it as soon as I get back

Replacing the bushings would be a good compliment to the new sway bar links..

Yeah, I changed out the bushings too. You could tell they were spent. Wow, online they are $6.16/each though you're probably paying like $9 for shipping and handling.

Man, I'm glad I found this thread. I installed my H&R's last week and now have the same problem. I think I know what happened too - I stripped the nut that attaches the link to the strut and may have torqued the link too much in the process.

oh well, wasn't the sway bar links for me -- "clank" is still there...

Last thing is for the lower control arms -- then I officially replaced all the ball joints that could have failed...

I wonder if it is the sheet metal that has a broken spot weld, guess I'll check that too.

I'm glad I changed the sway bar links though, there was a decent amount of play in one of them.

I can't believe OEM sway bar links doesn't supply the nuts to the links, had to run to the local hardware store to get them as the old ones were rusted enough for me not to want to re-use them.

I replaced the links this Sunday.. Sound is gone.. I ordered the bushings but it didn't arrived in time so I when ahead and installed the links first.. I'll installed the bushing when it gets here.!!!!
