Chedman13's Winter FX45

Nope, I think you can only go like X mph until the spikes fly out. There is no need in my mind for spikes, probably only ruin the roads.

I'm all for studdable tires/studless tires. I got a performance winter tire on another car, I thinking I should have gotten a true winter tire like the Ipikes.
I have the spikes on my work truck and they don't fly out at freeway speeds you just can't take corners at Mach 1 or they will pull out.LOL!
I'm thinking of mounting some I Pikes w/spikes on my OE 18 wheels.

Nice. I just got these Ipikes because I didn't want my Axis titan's to get messed up from the salt.

what does anyone think of these ipikes vs. blizzacks? as far as noise too when it's not snowing & icy? might get a set of dedicated winter tires for next season & I always thought the blizzacks were the best, but these look really nice too...

Chicago. Not sure, the forecast said 6 - 11 inches. I've been driving through maybe 4-5 inches in the suburbs no problem, the other roads are only at like 1-2 inches of slush/snow/ice.

I drove from Palos Park to Lincoln Park at 11pm. The roads were crazy. Even I55 hadn't been plowed and there was about 4-5" just sat on the freeway. I saw 3 actual accidents just on my trip downtown.

A Honda Civic that was driving right in front of me span out and hit a concrete wall on LaGrange. Damage didn't appear too bad. A new 4Runner made a real mess of it when he went head on with the concrete barrier on LSD at the S curves. The front end was pushed in all the way up to the windshield. And a Audi A3 2.0T went off the side of the road on I55. But that's what you get for buying an Audi withOUT Quattro in Chicago = huge fail at life :err:

2-4" more tomorrow!!

The Blizzaks do have an audible hum compared to my stock RSAs. Bothered me a little the first day I switched but have gotten use to it since. You can test drive/hear mine the next time I'm at your shop.

And chedman, love the setup you have. I too oddly look forward to snowy days with the snows mounted.

I never tried Bridgestone Blizzaks. I did a lot of research in buying Dunlop Winter Sport tires vs Blizzaks for my other car. Someone on another forum pointed out that Blizzak is a 8 year old technology -- whether this is true or even is relevant, I don't know. But on Tirerack and others mention Blizzaks make a sound.

I have no sound with IPikes on dry. Note that IPikes have a higher speed rating than the Blizzaks. That pretty much sold me, especially since their RH06's handled so well in snow/ice/dry.

The Blizzaks have like 1/2 winter forumla on top, 1/2 all-season on bottom, where the IPikes are 100% winter tire.

Blizzaks are trued and tried from many people, and it seems only 1 person (me!) reviewed the Ipikes.

Since you have a shop and can easily swap wheels in a heated garage -- why not Ipikes Studded! (if they are legal in your state --- haha that would be super loud on dry)

I could change the wheels easily enough, but the 22's I'm getting are a summer performance tire, they suck even in the dry if it's cold out, so I'll have to run my winter tire from like Nov till maybe march, 4-5 months out of the year. maybe it wouldn't be too crazy to have the summer tires, then winter tires as all seasons, & then a set of studded strictly snow tires for just the phucked up days :embarrassed: storing 8 spare wheels would get hairy though

do you think the ipikes are too aggressive for 4-5 months use? the higher speed rating is a good thing too, I don't drive easy most times & still want some performance, if snows are too much compromise might just keep the all seasons for winter use

I was thinking about getting dedicated winter tires, but we don't get that much snow on regular basis here, so I'm kind of undecided. My Yoko's perform pretty good in snow, it's been trouble free for the past couple of winters. But I'm gonna look into Ipikes if I decide to get snow tires, something different.

I have the Axis Titan's with a polished lip -- I also plan on using my IPikes for 5 months. It takes a while for most of the salt to be cleared in Chicago, and I don't want to damage my wheels.

It's too early to tell, but wear rate looks good as when I had these on in November, it was all dry roads.

I hope to get 4-5 winters out of these tires. We'll see. I know my friend has Blizzaks and used for 3 winters for 5 months and it has about 1/2 thread left. But note that the remaining half is the all-season compound and not a winter compound.

If these winter tires save me from a $500 deductible, well worth the cost of getting the tires in my mind.

dammit... ive been hating on my 18s as i got used to my 20s... maybe its time to get some 20"snow tires... how much did they run you... is it weird to have 20s on and back up 20s???

I think the links don't work because they might be sold out at those places. I bought mine for $152/tire from www.discounttiredirect.com using price match to tire-easy.com

Out the door, including shipping and tax = $608.00 to my door.
(free shipping, no tax)

I'm very happy I pulled the trigger, and I still get to use 20's
