When fully stopped, the car shakes and/or jerks when changing the gear from Reverse to Drive or Drive to Reverse. I also hear a clunk or metallic sound, not to loud.

Is this normal? do you guys experience this? or Maybe transmission mount has gone bad or driveshaft or u-joint bushing?

changing gears should be almost smooth and when shifting, they should engage promptly. even a lag of 2 seconds does not bode well for the life of a transmission. you might want to have it checked without further delay.

is it me or service personal at the dealers are really ignorant when it comes to sound or problems. The service dude heard it and turned around and said it was normal., I told him why would i notice this? it must be abnormal for me to bring this up. Its like drivng down my smooth street for 7 years and one day i wake up and feel speed bumps on the road.

My '03 FX35 also has a small jerk when you engage D or R from a standstill.
But that is quite normal imo, as all the drivetrain receives some torque from the gearbox.
Mine doesn't make a sound with it, you might want to check if there is some slack on the driveshaft(s).
Once i was just looking under the car for any abnormalitys and i just grabbed the driveshaft and try to turn it by hand both directions but there is totally no slack on any of the mech. parts so that should be good.

Maybe worth a try for you to find out yourself insted of bringing it to the garage?

I only hear a clunk when my car is on an incline and I pop the car in reverse from "P"

That is the only I would hear a clunk. I've had this since I had the car brand new... To add, all 3 of my infinitis do this..

someone here on IS told me to park the car in neutral, then press the hand brake and then shift to P. that way by engaging the hand brake early on, you avoid the movement of the car as it would if you just shifted to P. then when shifting to drive, don't release the hand brake till you have shifted to D. this reduces the clunk noise a lot. It has worked so many times for me.

matter of fact, i found the thread..

I always (by habit now) when shutting down, -------- foot brake, neutral it, parking brake, let off foot. ALL THE TIME. I hate the clunk.

At the moment with the freezing weather i don't use the handbrake at all!
Had it once with my previous car that the handbrake froze up.
That is having fun in reverse te get it released again:confused:

But as said, that is the correct way of parking on a incline.

Word. I've always done it this way. I cringe everytime I see someone let their car "drop" against the tranny before applying the e-brake.

more update guys, well its more like a tapping sound, like something is tapping under, i know what you guys are referring and trust me i experience sound back when it was new which is normal.

Hey guys where is the tranny mount on our cars?
now my car literally shakes from reverse to drive and same vice versa

best to review your engine mounts, 2 front and 1 rear, I think.

actually couple days ago i checked #8 tranny mount and found no cracks or tears in the rubber mount. Maybe there is a special way to inspect? possibly jacked it up or turn on the car and change gears and see if it shakes
