Center console buttons dont work when A/C is on

Hi all, just trying to see if anyone else has had this A/C problem. Every so often like once every 2 weeks when i turn on the A/C it blows out pretty cold but all the buttons on the A/C freeze from anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes while i am driving so i cant change the setting..everything is locked...i did notice the button for the rear window flashes a little..Is that the heated rear window button? This mostly happens when the weather has been very hot outside....was told to leave the windows slightly open when parking outside in the basement as temps get very hot..even bought a dash mat as someone said the dash gets extremely hot and could affect the A/C but both dont help...any help or suggestions would be great..tks
