I was taking my dash apart today and found this under the steering column.

so I did a little research and this is what I found.

Obviously I think this is a aftermarket device that was installed on the FX from the previuos owner or dealer.

anyone know what it was supposed to do (track location), is it like a lojack device.

Should I remove it? the lights are active on it and seems like it is working when the car is off.

but yea that is something weird

for me i got my car lojacked and had to go to the police station for them to put it in somewhere hidden i guess

so people would not know where to look

and they said it was something small
but yours doesnt look so small to me

Looks like a tracking device for fleet vehicles, I used to work for a place that tracked their work trucks so noone could do side jobs out of them. This was about ten years ago so i don't remember the name of the software. It was pretty neat, I would give them directions via nextell when they got lost since I could see where they were.
Try and get the software for it, if someone steals your fx you can take matters to your own hands & go dome bashin' if you wanted to!
 
Was your car a rental before? I remember reading something somewhere that some rental agencies have tracking devices.

I dont believe it was a rental since I have found the previous owners info in the GPS (HOME) and some paperwork. I'll pull the fuse for it at the very least.
