Cayman S

liking cars is an expensive habit

fx you get more for your money, more utility and just an all around great deal for me for what is an SUV ( a luxury SUV for 35K , thats a bargain ). but cayman is just too impractical for most peoples needs, with its non-existent rear seats. The depreciation on prosches are huge. And most people dont even recongize it, they think its just a 'baby porsche, couldn't afford the 911 ". No respect there.

but if I didn't have to worry about fitting people in my car, or having to carry alot of things , or what other people think ... Cayman is possibly the best handling car you can get on this planet. and I would chose it

its 150 % more rigid than a boxster due to its rooof & horizontal bars. Its low center of gravity is enabled by porsche's trademark flat six, plus its mid-engine and rear wheel drive, plus much lighter wieght than most cars ( just 2900 pds , almost half of the Cayenne)
and a sweet six-speed shifter. spells traffic tickets galore. cayman is much better car than the 911 even.

For me though, Fx is what smart logical people buy... Cayman on the other handl.....

My father was looking at the Cayman and decided against it simply because there are so many in my area and the snobbier of people do in fact call it the "baby-porsche"

tbh, i like the look of the cayman way more than any other porsche. i'd take it over a 911 any day.

obviously, the carrera GT doesn't count in this lol.

My dad brought up the Cayman too, but my mom was just like no you are not getting that, too flashy. He got an M35 instead, but the lease is up in a few months so we will see what he gets after I'm in college and he knows the financial situation. Pupp has a Cayman, so he should be here soon to tell everyone his thoughts.

From Kim Reynolds whom is one automotive expert I do trust; on the new Cayman S PDK:

"This thing is simply exquisite -- a thoroughbred racehorse in metal, a partner in road-gobbling that borders on the magical, more a 320-horsepower driving glove than a car.

It's now, in my humble opinion, very simply the best sports car in the world."

Pretty much sums it up. You can't deny a true lightweight, mid-engine/RWD configuration. And you can't deny physics. It's like a mini Carrera GT for $70K. Greatest bargain in performance cars imho (along with an Exige and a Noble M400). But I know absolutely shit about cars.

Joey,

I agree that used to be the case during the 1st gen introduction. And it comes from 3 basic groups of people:

1. The threatened 911 faithful
2. The uneducated car "enthusiast" lol
3. Those in denial

But after 3 years of basically winning every major international automotive award and dominating every comparison it ever comes up against, the tide is certainly starting to change. And the new version will take it even further. Amen to the guys at Porsche for finally taking their balls out of their wife's handbags and making a tough decision. But it benefits everyone because Porsche know that they have to start actually making big improvements to the 997 and upcoming 998 instead of just sitting on their asses and collecting bank now. The Carrera will become even better in itself, which it needs so badly.
