did a quick oil and filter change. used a floor jack and and set it on jack stands, front left and right. after the oil change the car will not go into gear, reverse or drive. any feedback is greatly appreciated!

might sound like a stupid question, but are you sure you drained your oil and not the transmission fluid ?

^That's a great call. Another (remote) possibility is that the little retaining clip below your shift knob may be broken. If the knob is lifted at all the engagement trigger won't actuate and the stick wont move.

Stupid question I'm sure - did you depress the brake?
With the ignition on or off, you should be able to hear mechanical sounds of pressing the shift lever button.
Does the button depress half way and "lock up" in the shift handle? Or, does the button depress all the way with shaft not wanting to move?

FXchosen, definitely oil but soon after i changed the oil i did check the tranny fluid and is bone dry. nothing leaking though??? when i start the car and change gears i do not hear any mechanical gears engaging like i normally do... should i hear it even though theres no tranny fluid? waiting for dealer to open tomorrow to pick up some fluid.

So you can move the shifter into R and D but the car will not physically move forward or back?

uh bone dry tranny isn;t cool.

ohhh sounds like your very low on fluid, torque converter might be running dry an locking up. If your fluid is good and not low it might be tranny linkage (but i doubt)

lol everyone on the forums just happened to have a 'stupid question' after me, haha but yeah bone dry transmission fluid is really really bad fill it back up and see if that would solve it

Has this happened b4 or did u notice that the gears were changing slower before? Like it would take about 2-3 sec to engage in R or something?

Its odd that it could happen all of a sudden like this ...

Or try lifting the rear part of the car to let the oil flow back into the converter in my assumption lol

My first ever car repair was this. Had my dad drive the car with one side of the tires up the curb and slid under there and saw what was wrong. I think the FX has a similar linkage, but I'm not sure.

Wow. Keep us posted what your findings are.

It seems like we are all dumbfounded here. I don't want to add another "stupid question". lol :bulgy-eyes:

sorry for the delayed response, but it seems I had very little tranny fluid left and when I lifted the cars front end it must have drained what little fluid was left somewhere else. Got the recommended tranny fluid from the dealer ($10 a quart), loaded 4 quarts and car was fine. from now on ill be checking my fluids more often.

well most of the tranny oil is not in the pan, their is about 4qts and when u do a flush about 7 qts
