Car Overheating Part 2

On Friday night, my car overheated with coolant boiling in the reservoir which caused the coolant to spill out from the reservoir.

I got a chance to drop off my car at Riverside Infiniti today. The service manager called me back to let me know that there was a leak in the radiator and the radiator had to be replace along with the thermostat.

Quite a disappointment from this car since I always babied my car and I've never abused it. It just happens so that the thing breaks when I'm out of basic warranty.

I thought it was the dreaded head gasket leak, but I guess that's not the case. I wonder if they even tried a compression test on the system to isolate it to the radiator.

Anyhow, they want to rape me for $1,100 for parts and labor.

I hope this will make the problem go away or I'm gonna be pretty pissed off for paying for something that doesn't need to be repaired.

I'll keep you guys posted.

hmm....leak in the radiator.....once they take it out that would be visible...if it is true....i got my radiator replaced & thermostat it was less than $500....it will be interesting to see what arises from this...

New radiator itself is like 5 something... the rest is labor, fluids, etc.

I know they are raping me but let's see how far they can go and see if this will fix the problem. I can't wait to ask them to refund me after it overheats again because they replaced a working part for no reason! Better yet, I'll let my CC company fight them. My CC company loves me for running ALL my business expenses through.

Which business CC do you use??

It's not a business CC.. it's a personal that I use to track my business expenses.

They replace the radiator and car is running good again. I'm crossing my fingers... I hope it doesn't become a recurring nightmare.

@mongolian

how much was the initial visit to infiniti to have them tell you it was your radiator? did you buy your fx from the infiniti dealership? god im hoping mines not like everyone elses

so i am one of the very unfortunate people to be having an overheating issue with my 05' fx35 as well. i was on my way home last night when i noticed engine temp light redlining. shortly after, my gas wasnt accelerating the vehicle (a safety measure by the ECU im assuming.) I quickly pulled over and had smoke/steam billowing from my engine and when i went to pop the hood noticed all my coolant had expelled onto the ground. MY FX HAS 82,000 MILES ON IT. reading these forums are making me scared out of my mind because im only 21 and i spend almost my entire paycheck on my car. im way strapped on cash and cant be affording to spend money on parts that dont need replacing so im really hoping someone can give me advice. anyhow i got home from work today and refilled the radiatior and reservoir with water to see if i could find any gravitational leaks (did not do pressure test because i dont have the tools.) and i couldnt see anything. Then i proceeded to Follow instructions by my dealer I try to reproduce the overheating effect by reving my engine to 2500rpm and allowing the engine to heat to its normal operating temperature and everything was running fine except a few small noises i have not heard before "water sloshing." If anyone can just please explain to me how often they have it occur? do you wait for it to cool down and drive it again? i dont know what first steps to take, theres so many things (water pump, thermostat, radiator and/or radiator cap, pin hole leak in the head gasket???? and the people that work at my local beaverton infiniti shop here in oregon sound worthless like how everyone else on this thread describes theres to be
