Car Gouged Rear Bumper and Left it Parked that way

It's kinda funny because I drove an old Volvo as my first car, but the front license bolts fell off so I ran no plate. Good thing too because I rolled into the back of a guy at a light once but it left no mark. I was also in a wreck in that car where it got hit in the right rear bumper. Same black plastic as we have, and they were able to recondition it and use the same bumper for repairs.

@Sir,, oh my, that is disturbing. I almost threw up in my mouth a little. Your M-I-L is on the protected scrolls to survive that? She must make a good bananna bread or some such business. I would have used her ass as a tether ball! I almost gave this little-old-lizard a people's elbow for roughing up my front fender with a shopping cart!
 
Nah. Not gonna spoil good family relations over $500 of damage. Shes offering to pay but I won't take the $$ she doesn't have. They just bought a new place.
 
Couldn't you report that license plate to your insurance company and have them trace it to the other driver's insurance? Usually if the other insurance company takes fault, your own deductible shouldn't go up. I wouldn't eat 500 bucks bc someone was careless and decided to park like that.
