Can't make up my mind for Motor Oil - HELP PLZ

But why switch if you have used it on all your cars for years without any issues. I also use Mobil 1 on a few of my cars and will not switch since I have always been happy with it.
Just to give it a try. Been hearing much about it and partly due to Jonas experiences :smile (2):

Ooopsss, my bad. It was Pennzoil Platinum that was on sale for $20 AR! Not Pennzoil Ultra! Never mine
So now that my warranty experied a few weeks ago I'm going to start changing my own oil. What type of oil and filter do you guys recommend? I see many members talking about penzzoil oil for their FX.
Oscar I think Mobil 1 is the most commonly used ol here, if I were to switch, personally, I would go to Amsoil synthetic and their oil filters, but for now I am sticking to Mobil 1.

IMO, manufacturers continue to do research and try to break into the market by making the greatest product ever at competitive prices....that's what every great business does. I think just because a certain oil has worked for 10+ years doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't try a product that many have reported to take care of your engine even more because of new research, developments, etc.

But you also have to keep in mind that Pennzoil Ultra fully synthetic is a brand new product in comparison. So you'll find a lot more content on Mobil 1 extended, but the recent posts of Ultra is hard to overlook and so is the price in comparison. Penzzoil Ultra is doing so great that there are links comparing it to amsoil high end oils, royal purple, etc, which have by many been considered a different class in itself compared to mobil 1 products that are stocked by almost every mechanic. When I did the oil analysis, I was ridiculously surprised how much dirt the Ultra flushed out of my engine in just the first change. Granted I was just using a Mobil 1 extended filter with non mobil oil, but it was only after 3k miles! The ultra has a hyper cleansing additive that keeps the engine cleaner than any other oil according to Pennzoil's tests including Mobil 1 synthetics.

1. Keep it cool.
2. Lubricate it.
3. Grab dirt to flush out dirt through oil changes. Not doing so would cause abrasions, unnecessary engine wear, etc.
Superior oils will usually have dispersants, detergents, anti-wear agents, antioxidants, friction modifiers, anti-foam additives, viscosity improvers, pour point depressants and rust and corrosion inhibitors, which are all found in Ultra Synthetic. Together, they form a formidable barrier against engine wear and sludge formation, and can actually improve fuel economy through reduced internal friction.
I think mobil 1 synthetic and Penzzoil ultra do #1 and #2 both equally well and for a very long time (more than standards). #3, I strongly feel Ultra is superior. This is why I choose Ultra and the fact that it's a lot cheaper compared to mobil 1 extended at wallmart since you are not paying for all that marketing buzz or brand price tag premium.
But either way you will be fine since you are using superior products.

lol ... marketing ... did you know some of the Olympians had Giant bikes but with Trek logos on them? Marketing to it's fullest! 
interesting thing you brought up Shell stuart...that's good for the gas thread....I think I recall reading shell additives in their gas might actually be some of the best compared to other high grade gases like BP and Mobil stations. So I guess the Ferrari is running on shell gas too?

I didn't know the SRT engines are now getting Penzzoil ultra, including the SRT8 HEMIs and the new 2013 SRT Viper, but what was most interesting is finding out that Penzzoil Ultra is the EXACT oil Team Penske uses in their indy cars! Wow. I would have thought for sure at least an Indy cars would use some crazy $1000/quart oil lol
I was at the Indianapolis speedway for the 2001 INDY 500 when Castroneves won his FIRST Indy 500 win... and now I just found out that Castroneves, Ryan Briscoe, and Will Power exclusively run exactly the Pennzoil Ultra from wall mart on the twin-turbocharged direct-injected Indy car engines! Incredible!
If you guys haven't been to the Indy 500, it's incredible...it's so worth the trip and the roar of the engines and how fast these cars go is just mind boggling.
Castroneves is actually my idol in terms of racing. He's won over 20 races and won the Indy 500 first place 3 times, making him one of only nine drivers to date to have won at least three.

Now I miss the times I used to go to races all the time....
I used to go to the brickyard 400 too. The Indy cars are so much louder...
One of the brickyard 400 races there was a huge accident right in front of me...I have pictures...might have to dig them up. At the Indy 500 we are usually at 50 rows up start/finish line and visit pits frequently....my friend goes every year and takes me sometimes. Took him since his grandparents on getting tickets that good.

See Jonas, I told you it was good stuff. And I would not hesitate at all to use Penn Platinum, I use it strictly in my other car. Andy, if you can get it.for that.price...jump on it.

Giant makes Trek's bikes, that's why. Trek used to be Made in USA, now it's Taiwan. I guess it's even cheaper to contract it out rather than make your own factory.
I use Shell gas because it's available right by campus so that's what I got tuned on. However, the Mobil station just north of Santa Clarita in SoCal always seems to give me good mileage.
Marketing is funny stuff, but you can't blame a race company for taking some money just to use a certain oil in their factory cars. They have to use some oil, might as well get it at a discount, or at least get paid to advertise it.
BTW, here's an older Penske car. Yep Mobil back then. Just goes to show you that oil is oil, get whatever's cheaper. :smile (2):

exactly....Penzzoil Ultra full synthetic at Wallmart is $10-$20 cheaper per 5 quart jug than Mobil 1 full synthetic. Then add another few quarts just to get the oil change done on a FX50, it's quite a premium for a product that is either the same or slightly less better.
I'm sticking to my Mobil 1 , just because it is more readily available and it works. I have used it on my last 4 vehicles. Never a complaint. one was 16 years old, the other 12 years old.

I used to do the Wal Mart bit, but they don't have the filters I want. I usually go for the 5 qt jug + filter deal for M1, especially when the dealer is doing the change and I don't need the K&N. I believe it ends up being cheaper, or close.

Mobile1 most of the time, tried Amsoil once, didn't see much difference... Gonna try Royal Purple on the next oil change.
