Type R Alpines

I have 06 Fx35 I been riding around with the stock blose system for almost 2 years and just could not take it. So check the specs on the the stock system found that the system is running at 2 ohms. I put Alpine SPR17 comps in the rear and SPR-17S separates up front I decided to put the tweeter on that triangle peace in the corners of the side windows and leave the bose driver in the dash for the midrange its sound good, imaging good, bass response good. I know it would be better with a power amp and that will be my next step with a sub change and change out all the 3" dash /rear pilers to actual DLS midrange speakers but overall compared to what it was its a 10 and a cheepy fix to the no highs no bass you know the rest....

Reviving this 6 yr old thread lol....Ok so what is everybody replacing their door speakers with nowadays?
Just looking for some suggestions and opinions on the best/most reasonably priced to go with??

Also is it better to put mid-range speakers in the front doors and 2-way coaxials in the rear doors? Is this a better option?

The stock Bose system sounds great in my opinion, there's 0 distortion at max vol as it retains the clarity and quality. Maybe the base isn't as deep as having two 12" subs, and maybe its not as loud as having 3000w pumped through the amps, but its a damn good one. Still haven't got tired of any of the car's features after 5.5yrs! :smile (2):

I went in looking for a small upgrade after I got the sub done, as it was overpowering the rest of the system, I ended up finding out that trying to work with the factory shit is an expensive nightmare.

Ended up holding off, until I can rip out literally all the remaining bose shit, install a different head unit, and rewire everything throughout the car.

Were you just gonna replace the speakers? What problems did you run into??

I currently just run speaker replacements. I was going to amp them all and tried installing a 5 channel amp but had issues with the line out converter. So right now, I had door and dash speakers aftermarket with OEM everything else including sub. It's a decent improvement over stock, but not earth shattering. I'm running Kicker - 3.5" in dash and 6.5" in doors. Keep in mind that the Bose runs on 2ohms I believe so when shopping for speakers, get compatible ones.

I wouldn't change the speaker layout without upgrading the rest of the system and getting a processor. Bose system isn't going to be able to accommodate different speakers front and rear.

The stock headunit is the ultimate limitation. Trying to keep that while building a system around it is a hassle.

The one way the shop said they could do it was to buy an Audison Prima amp, or an Audison Bit One, and run the system using that. That allows them to tune the thing, without that they simply have no control over what the Headunit is telling the system. This solution would be $1500 for the audison gear, plus whatever you spend on the speakers. Not too bad, all said less than $3k, unless you buy some crazy speakers.

The best possible solution would be to add in a proper headunit, and re-do the entire audio system, this is where money becomes a big deal. We're talking a ton of labor and custom work. probably $6k+

It's up to you, just replacing the speakers would certainly help some, but to do anything properly, you gotta get rid of the Bose garbage atleast as far as their amp, and start fresh.

Yeah I know to properly do it...the best thing would be to replace the entire audio system but as you stated..that's $$$$. I just want to replace
the stock speakers for now just for an improvement like Shadow did. Just wanted to see what brands people were using to do this....

Hey Shadow...the one's I've been looking at are JL Audios and they are rated at 4 Ohms....so will these not work?? Confused as to what brands will work
properly. Do you remember the Kicker models you have?
