can I add a sub without adding an amp?

My friend is giving me this sub for free as he just upgraded to kicker subs. This is the one he is giving me:

What im wondering is if I can just cut the factory sub wire and splice the wire to this JL sub and it would work? Or am I going to need to upgrade the amp too or it isnt necessary?

You'll need an amp kit with fuse, RCA line converter and mono amp. I have an AMP on FB for sale , I'll need to take pic with name in order to post on IS.

My problem is that idk how to wire that stuff thats why I was hoping I didnt need to add an amp. Im confused on all this audio stuff like loc and stuff like that.

I would def get an amp bro, the stock amp won't be enough for the sub to hit, so it would be pointless IMO

But my question though is as a temporary setup can I just wire that sub up to the factory amp and it would work? I dont wanna spend money on an amp at the moment as this sub is just something given to me for free without any thought of upgrading the sound system in the first place.

Remember, the stock amp pushes 2 little 4" "subs" wired at 2ohm. The sub you are getting is a 10" at 4ohm. Meaning: the stock amp throws supposedly 100w into the 2 speakers @2ohm. @4ohm, the stock amp will push out 50w into your subwoofer. That 100w is way over inflated for our stock amp. I think the REAL rms power of the stock amp is more like 40w into the 2 stock subs. So your new sub would REALLY only see about 20w.

You might as well move the subwoofer manually in and out with your hand than throw that little of power to it. You won't hear it even at full volume. AND the easiest way of destroying a subwoofer is by not throwing enough power at it. With not enough power, the sub moves unevenly destroying the voicecoils, causing distortions, and clipping the amp.

Aaron if you're around tomorrow or this week, i can show you my setup and it isnt the biggest sub and amp but it definately puts out amazing quality. The setup i believe wasn't expensive either. I also have a guy you can go to for great prices.
