Yeah, definitely go with something custom. I really like that AMG gold color. Back when I was buying my BBK, I wanted a custom color, but it wasn't an option, so I settled for red as I didn't feel right to get them repainted when they are spanking shiny new, lol.

In your case, I would go custom rather than the traditional red/yellow as I consider this is an "upgrade" :smile (2:)

Totally forgot that I painted all 4 OEM calipers last summer with the same color(picture in my garage). Go with this one, looks really good.
I am in the same exact boat as you. I really want to paint the calipers on our FX and am debating between red or the yellow from the AMG Carbon Ceramic Brakes.

I looked but didn't see any pictures in your garage with the gold calipers. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

I think that I'm leaning more towards the red. I think the gold is perfect with the blue but the red goes better with the dark graphite. Going to call High Point Powder Coating in Liberty Hill and get a quote and time estimate and see where it goes. I might even try to run em down there Saturday if they can do a one day turn around... otherwise I'll have to wait and I'll spend that time installing my new front aero lip (booyaa!), new focal front speakers, morel sub and alpine amp. Oh and build my custom fiberglass sub box. I think I'm gonna be busy over the next couple weeks!

the OEM one painted with VHT SP402. I'm going to paint the Akebono's with this color today/tomorrow.

Cool thread! I've been wanting to paint my calipers red for some time now, but I was quoted $800 for powder coating, and they would need my car for about a week. Now i'm looking for a shop that will just paint them for less money and time.

Powdercoating the stock calipers should run about 50 a corner. I was quoted 45 per (so 180) to powdercoat mine and that's by a very reputable shop.

If you are having them disassemble the brakes, store the car and reassemble then that will obviously cost more especially since they need to properly brake down the calipers and prep.

But 600 for that? Hmm. Seems pretty steep to me.

Thanks. I was hoping to see them on a car though as that's the only way to really know ;)

Getting mine done tomorrow. Is there some sort of color code I can tell the body shop to get this done too? Since the FX will be in getting the front lip installed, gonna have him do this also!

zebra, what else do you do besides mod your FX, find deals on websites, and sell a few car items here and there? :)

Do them on the car with high heat rattle can, this is super easy. Some simple masking around and then use a crap towel to drape around the rotor. Scuff with a fine non corse wire brush, blow off with an air gun, quick de grease and presto! You can always give them a fresh coat when needed.
