CAI Timing Problems

Just installed Weapon R CAI and gas mileage went down about 2-3 mpg. I noticed a higher idle rpm and rpm jumping when I drive, specifically when I let off of the acclerator and also higher rpms when coasting. Can the FX be programmed to adjust to the new air intake levels? What should I do? Thanks

Never heard of that happening before ... When i installed my Stillen intake, it didnt do that ... do certain ecu's respond differently to different types of intakes?

Did you re-connect the PCV hose on the driver's side to the new intake?

Any time you change the breathing of your motor (intake and exhaust) it is a good idea to reset the ECU. One good way to know if you have reset the ECU is that you lose your radio presets. If you have to reset all your stations, the computer is also resetting the "learning cells" in the fuel/air/timing maps. Disconnect the battery and step on the brake a few times. You should only need about five mintues OR you can just follow the procedure that Stu pointed to.

If that does not fix your problem, It is possible you could have issues with the MAF that you had to move when installing the new intake. Or the throttle body. Both of these can be cleaned but are very sensitive and you should research doing it correctly if you are going to DIY. Make sure all hoses and clamps are tight and check the vacuum hoses coming from both valve covers and the plenum.

Finally... if you want to get more power out of your intake, you will need a tune. UpRev Osiris is the software needed to reflash the FX stock ECU. An experienced tuner would be the only way to go on this one. Remapping fuel, air and timing across the RPM range. Only specialty shops are going to do this - no dealership or mechanic shops. If you are serious about getting a tune, then I would first recommend getting a plenum spacer and an exhaust. Intake, Plenum Spacer, Exhaust & Tune = most power possible for your naturally aspirated FX. With those four things you could get up to about 35whp more.

would he also know how to reset a throttle sensor steps(or however you all them)?
thanks
