Buying a used FX

What are your thoughts on buying a fairly used FX? Im looking at getting an 04. Ive seen ones with anywhere from 30k-50k miles on them. Would I be able to get a whole lot more? The past two cars ive owned were both Acuras, so mileage didnt scare me. Im not so sure on the Infiniti's. Can someone shed some light on this topic?
Is the FX not a vehicle that can take you past 100k miles?

I bought my 03' FX45 about a 1.5 years ago... with 30k miles... and no problems. As far as I know Infiniti doesn't have any tranny problems like the acuras (I know... I still have a 02' TL-S as a daily driver, on it's 3rd tranny  )

with used fx's, aside from the obvious v6 vs v8, options come into play. sport is nice, but nothing that you can't do without because a non sport can be upraded to 20" wheels & suspensions can be upgraded anyway. the one option to really consider is the tech package, which gives you mainly the navigation & the radar cruise, add lane departure on the later ones... these are things that can't be added later & I see many regreting they didn't have these...

past that, one very major consideration is weather you get an 03-05, or get an 06-08. the 06-08 has some upgraded exterior trim, grille & fnt bumper & also has a much nicer dash & some interior stuff too.

Very nice write up by Johnmax from the org:

Also, I bought a used 04 35 from a dealership a year ago. The dealer kind of pushed me to get the one with tech package. Im really glad they did. I was about to pull the trigger on the sport, because I liked the 20" and clear tails. But now I bought the clear tails, I have the full tech package, and if I wanted to, I could get the used 20's from the For Sale forum. I'm looking at going 22's after seeing them, and glad I didn't pay extra to get the stock 20's.

Overall, extremely happy with the fx. Just make sure all the TSB's and Recalls have been done. Since an 04 is probably going to be out of warranty now, you dont want to front the bill later on. That includes the pesky faded window trim! No known issues with trans or engine (fx45 needs to watch the oil levels though). FX's should easily last 100k+ miles.

Turst me, Id love to go with an 06+, but Im a college kid, and well, you all know lol. I only want the tech package, and dont care for the others as toy4x explained, and I agree. Its just going to be hard finding one in my price range.

I agree. I would actually prefer non-sport if given the option. You get the 18" wheels over the 20s - better looking, lighter, less u/s weight. And you can just upgrade the suspension with some aftermarket springs like H&R or Eibach for $250, which from what I understand perform better than the stock sport suspension. And they lower the car for a sportier look. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to the Scene! Many here have already pointed out good stuff to consider. Good luck in your search for the right FX for you.

just to give you an idea i bought an 04 non-sport, non-tech last year with 19K miles and paid 27k. the only thing i wish mine had was the color screen that came with the tech package. dont necessarily want the navi or laser cruise or any of that. just dont like the amber screen.

Just bought my '05 3 weeks ago with sport/tech package and loving it! The Sport package is nice, but as others have said, suspension can be altered for less, later (I actually already bought the H&Rs!)

Navi is nice, though, and I am glad that I got it. The back-up camera came in more handy than I thought, as well!

One of the first things I did was take it to the dealer to find out when the warranty expired - then had them replace the dash (due to minor bubbling) and all exterior window trim, and still waiting on weather stripping to come in (special order).

If you can get your hands on an '05 with some warrantly left, like mine, it helps in erasing some of the car's past

Take your time in choosing the right FX for you. Im sure there's plenty out there that you can get a deal on and dont worry about the miles, deep down it's still a nissan and japanese cars are known to last a long time.

I just bought a used one about 2 weeks ago. 05' Black Peanut inside, 31k on it for 20k.
Clean paint, and title. This was from an auction though.. Good Luck finding one!

I was debating whether or not to get a used or brand new FX. The only thing i'm worrying about is if the previous owner abused it or not, after all it does have the nice gas pedal response and who wouldn't wanna test it out frequently? So I ended up getting a new '08 FX. just to make sure.

I've been searching for the last 4 hours on line at cars.com for that 45 and found several. Prices ranged from around $6300 to around $28000, and mileage from around 11500 (from an 05?):eek.: I'm not buying it! to an 03 with 193000 miles with no price listed, but optioned out (for an 03).
I also like to look at reviews of the dealers selling the cars/carfax / autochex reports (the free ones for now).
