Hello new owner of a used 04 FX35 w/ 83k miles here.

I had a question regarding a strange smell that seems like burning oil coming from my engine. I checked under the hood and looked around for leaks but I can't seem to find anything. Any ideas where this burning smell is coming from? The dealership we bought it from said it is probably just oil that dripped on the block during the oil change. We've own this FX35 literally for only 6 days and it does seem the smell is intermittent, just curious as to what's causing this.

Thank you!

As a reference...this is my wife's daily driver. She owned an Acura Integra, Nissan Altima, Nissan Exterra and an Acura MDX before this vehicle - only the Altima and Exterra was bought new. The Exterra had the same burning oil smell however it definitely had an oil leak, probably from the VCG? Could this be the culprit but if so, how come I can't see any visible leaks?

Again, thanks in advanced!

For now wait and see. If it was just oil from the service it will burn off and the smell should go away. If it does not go away, it could be leaking onto an exhaust manifold and burning off there, never making it to the ground.

The only other thing I could suggest is watching the tailpipe, especially at start-up. If it smokes, you might be burning some oil in the cylinders. It does not seem that serious though. As long as your MPGs are around 18-22 there probably is not an engine issue.
