Bumper paint is flaking

I have two points where the paint is coming off. On the trailing edge of the front bumper between the headlight and hood. The edge corner of the bumper where it meets up with the fender.

My car has the scratch shield paint. It looks like the paint did not adhere well to the corners of the edge.

Is anyone else seeing this?

i have a lot of dings and chips because of small rocks flying on the road and everything if you think its something that Infiniti might of messed up on take it back and tell em to repaint it or something... in my opinion it will be hard because they might blame it on the road and flying small rocks from trucks and all... post some pictures ???
 
I have something similar on the front, but I'm not a 2nd gen. Sounds similar though, where it looks like the clear coat is popping off near the headlight.
 
It not really in a place that is prone to rock dings. Also, it's in the same place on both sides.

I brought the car to the Inifiniti dealer and the manager looked at it. He checked to see if the car had any signs of impact and then he proceeded to run his nails along the paint. This is why in the later pic there is more paint missing.

He then gave me the address to the dealer's body shop and told me to have them forward the info to him so he can send in a claim to Infiniti.

Driver side. Not as bad but I'm worried it will be later.

my back bumpers clear coat is starting to flake off a lil also . nothing really serious yet but imma repaint it soon .
 
okay i dont know what areas you guys live it but does it involve a lot of rain or snow?

Very little rain. Car sleeps in a garage.

It's odd because the paint is falling off in the same place on both sides. Thereby ruling out rock dings for the most part.

Something like this is bound to happen to atleast one FX off the production line. You want to know why? People don't paint the cars, there is a robotic arm that does the painting and spraying of clear at the Infiniti plant. The only thing the workers do is prep it by sanding. And to me it looks like the prepping wasn't done right in that area which led the paint to flake.

Or when you purchased the car the packing protection wasn't removed easily and it damaged the paint during delivery. I've seen this happen MANY times.

Or one more possible cause. Maybe when the fender, headlight, and bumper were being assembled in that area during production, it was done kind of rough and damaged the paint causing it to flake.
 
I have the same color and while yours is sealed and painted. Mine does not have any sealer the sheet metal meets each other, but does not touch.
 
Took it to dealer. Service manager looked at it and had me take it to their body shop.

Power's own body shop said they see this quite often and said it is caused by the bumper and the fenders rubbing. The dealer said they would take care of this. I'm hesitant to have Power's body shop do it because when I brought up that my car has scratch shield his reply was I would have to go back to the place where I got the aftermarket coating to have that redone after painting.

When I told him that scratch shield was OEM, he seemed confused and exclaimed that he had never heard of paint that was self healing. BTW. I brought up the same thing when I spoke to the service manager afterwards and received a similar response.
 
a lot of places are not familiar at all with the ceramic clear coat... I did one fx50 rear bumper & I did use ceramic clear, it's not all that different but it is a little harder to work with & the clear coat does cost ~ twice as much as a conventional clear, there are other differences too that a shop should be aware of, bottom line is either they want to invest the time & effort into learning to deal with it or they don't... 2nd question is, if they've never done it before do you want to be the guinea pig while they "learn". honestly if it's a pro shop they should be able to deal with it & even there first job using it should be fine, mine was, I was a little apprehensive only because I never used it before but in the end it went fine & now I'd be very comfortable using it again
