Broken Exhaust Flange

I noticed he FX growling a bit more than normal on the way back to work Thursday night. Looked under when leaving, pipe broke where if connects to the flange. Luckily there is a Performance Muffler Shop on my way home and they said it is common for this vehicle. They quoted me $68 to cut out the flange and weld in a piece of stainless. He also said, though the exhaust has some rust on it, that it is in good shape otherwise.

I am going to leave it as is for a few days, I like the extra growl..LOL.

Question though, it looks like there is a muffler of sorts in the mid pipe near the center of the chassis, what is that? Kinda small...

That's a resonator.

Can it be removed and if so, what will it do?

Yes it can it will give it a little more growl sometimes comes with rasp as well.

i wouldnt touch the resonators, they will rasp horribly.. If you want to mod your car for something louder, just do a muffler delete

Seems to be a common problem, I had to cut out n weld a new piece where flange is on mine also. I did like the extra growl before lol

I really like the exhaust note with the pipe broken. For those that had the muffler delete done, what could I expect a shop to charge for this?
