Brake Squeal?

Is it typical to have brake squeal when backing up? I noticed on my car history that the previous owner brought it in to the dealer often for this problem. Any recommendations? One shop told me to go to Akebono pads instead of the original factory ones? He said the factory dealer can't get it right so why buy it again. Thanks!

go with akebono.

but yes, backing up -- I bet you mean backing up from a cold start. you're going to get that with ceramic brake pads.

Its really the combination of the oem rotors and pads. I still use the oem pads because of the near absent brake dust but I use the drilled stop tech rotors in oem size.

Yeah, backing up from a cold start. So there's no way to get rid of it? I don't want to get new Akebono pads if that will not solve the squeak. Any permanent solution?

The dealer mentioned to spray it with a hose to get the dust or whatever out from the pads. haha and he mentioned to do something like drive fast in an ally and brake fast. Like I'm really going to do that. He said he would not sell me new pads/rotors because the squeak will eventually come back.

Try the akebono pads first than try new rotors. What the dealer is talking about withthe "drive fast and brake fast is for bedding new pads.

Thanks Dr.2K and everyone else. Debating if I should get the akebono pads with oem rotors or just go with your set up, oem pads with drilled stop tech rotors....

1) bed your brakes about every 5,000 miles or when noise occurs.
http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

It removes the glaze on your pads.

2) Try to find non-ceramic pads, I wasn't able to find any for our cars. Metalic pads are even louder than ceramic.

i have Hawk HPS brake pads- very loud, so i decided to spray very little amount of wd 40 on the rotors and the squeaking went away immediately, but the stoppin power was decreased by 20% percent (i.e. when slowly braking), and wd 40 usually disperses after 2 weeks, but that literally stopped the sound, and another way to get rid of the sound is sanding the corners of the pads

^^^ I wouldnt recommend using WD4 or any other lubricants or oils :bomb:!
you would sand the face of the pad to remove build up glaze.

So I went to Miller Infiniti and got this TSB ITB05-062 done yesterday. The tsb says they have to replace the pad. The new pads do not have a return spring attached (riveted) to them as the original ones do. The new brake pad kit part # is 41060-CL10J. I don't know if they really replaced the part or did something to get me by, but so far no squeak when reversing.

Give it a couple days. Squeal will return.
I had that TSB done. It doesnt last long. At least you got new pads out of it.

@GTO - 1 week and still no squeak. At first the service rep was iffy because I was out of warranty, but he ended up doing it for free. He just said, "I don't understand why the previous dealerships didn't just replace it?" I also got my intelligent key programed for free at the same time for the hassle of bringing it back. :smile (2):

@jscastan - I had about 22K miles on the vehicle when I purchased the 05 FX35 on July 31, 2010. I checked the history and the previous owner took it to the dealer 3 times ( different dealerships then what I am using) within the past year. All the times the previous owner took it, the report said something like turned rotors or resurfaced pads due to glazing.

How often do you guys change your pads?

I have 43K on my '06 and I'm the original owner. Around the 35K mark, I began to get cold squeal when lightly braking from <10mph, like cruising around in a parking lot. As soon as I speed up and brake harder, the squeal goes away.

I had the brakes checked and have plenty of meat on the pads left, so I just live with it.

I don't get any squeal when backing up, however.
