Brake Pads

i need brake pads soon and was wondering what would everyone recommend? OEM, Hawks? or is there anything else thats better?

I need to change my rears too and I'm going back to OEM again. My OEMs have lasted me almost 40k miles without any issues. I think I can safely say they will serve me well again. I've read some problems with after market brakes not lasting long or not biting until they are warmed up. I don't want to deal with these problems.

Krazie... Definitely get the OEM Pads.. I got the Hawk pads and they only lasted me for about 7 month.. now I have some ultra high performance pads that have a lifetime warranty and they suck..

My FX will not stop like it did with the OEM pads.... Unless you upgrade to a BBK..

Yours is a special case - operator error:laugh::laugh:

any lifetime pad = crap

For the FX your options are really limited. Hawks IMO are very overrated... I would stick with OEM, best bang for your buck! Unless you can get bigger brakes off a G37 or something.

I have Hawks...VERY overrated...they dont stop worth crap when they are cold...go with the oem's.

For those of you who have the Hawks - do you have ceramic or ferro-carbon?

When I ordered my rear rotors from Stoptech, I asked them to recommend a pad, based on matching the front kit performance wise (balanced braking). They recommended the ferro-carbon Hawks and I got them today, but won't install until the stoptech rotor is also installed.

Any experience with ceramic vs ferro-carbon?

Its time for me to get some new Pads.
I was goin to go with the Hawks Ceramics -
I wanted to get all the parts and then have someone change them out for me.

Since reading this thread, do you guys have any other pads you recommend other than Hawks & OEM? Im currently Posi-quiets. My 2nd question is how much fluid should I get???

Will, you don't need to replace the fluid everytime you replace the pads. Didn't you do it when you replaced your rotors and pads the last time?

Yeah they put in that blue racing stuff. Ok, So all I need is new pads.

isnt OEM pads made with brass and other stuff? I had to scuff them up due to a noise, I guess they got glazed. also I noticed the brake disk looks brown.(same color as the stuff on the pads)

I may try another brand when my brakes are up.

I just ordered the Posi quiets again - getting them put on next weekend. The set I have on lasted me about year and half.

I just changed my brake pads with hawks since mine were low in back and some what done in the front. I like it so far. My driving habits get my brakes warm in 2 minutes of driving. :)
I got the NON-Ceramic Hawks. No noise so far.
God I wish I had some kind of BBK.

Ok this has been bugging me for a while.
Hawk Break Pads suck.
They make noise all the time, even after 20 min of driving.
The bite is terrible and feels like a downgrade.
I am frustrated that I spent more money than OEM for better performance, but NO.
I have more noise, more dust, and less stopping power. What part of that is a better product.
I don't know what to do. I thought this noise was a temporary thing. I now have 6mm on all four. I don't know what to do.
Anyone want to buy Hawk Pads? :)

ebay pads/rotors

Thought I would chime in here for my first post. I just bought a 2005 FX35 and it needed new front rotors and pads. I decided to change all 4 wheels, rotors and pads. I got on ebay and found the cheapest ones I could find. I pad $200 shipped for pads/rotors on all 4 corners, then paid $200 to a local shop to install them. They work ok and there has never been any noise. The guy who installed them said that he had to bend back the little metal shield that goes around the rotor because it was too close to the rotor or something and it was making a screeching noise. Not sure what that piece is called. But anyways, the stopping power is probably not like the OEM brakes, but I don't drive like a maniac so it should suit me fine. The seller on ebay was brake_overstock.
