Bought an '06 FX45 today, think I got a deal on a clean ride

I'm going to pick up the FX45 from the body shop. Damage is $9,200 and the adjuster says it is worth $27k, so damage is only 34% of value. Insurance will pay to fix, minus my $500. Awesome.. we love this vehicle. So great to drive. Set cruise control at 90mph towing the boat and power to burn. REALLY loved this car/truck/whatever for towing and for our road trip. Performed so well.

Oh yeah... got 11.5mpg for the trip. That is with towing at 85mph and is actually better gas mileage than I get in my 400whp E85 Subaru or my lifted trail Jeep, so I'm used to burning gas.

Well that's good news, glad to hear you don't have to get rid of your new baby. Did they say how long it would take to fix.

^^ Window and roof trim pieces are on national backorder... they have ordered all the parts and won't start until they have everything in hand. They expect to have everything within a week or two. Not sure how long the job will take them. Most of it is being done via paintless dent repair, other than the hood where several pieces of hail cracked and broke the paint.

Potential for any upgrades? Antennae removal, color matching parts...good time to take advantage of a less than favorable start!

^^ Good point.. I did that on my Subaru when my front end got whacked.. but I really like the FX45 looks in stock form. Don't think I'd gain anything from antenna removal, etc. Got any pics of what color-matching would look like? You mean painting the chrome trim??

This is a bad pic (car is dirty as sin) but it is what I happened to have on my desk top, antennae is gone, door handles matched, mirrors matched, lower rocker chromes strips matched, front valance matched up to black well lip plastic. (You can't see it but I chose to not paint the rear black bumper plastic) If they are in there doing work anyway.....opportunity!

UPDATE 9-5-11: Car has been in the body shop since 8-19. They had the paintless dent repair man spend 4 days on it, which is all they thought it would take for him. Turns out that the Infiniti sheet metal is thicker and harder to work with than Nissan sheet metal (they had just done a hail damaged Murano right before I brought my FX45). So, in that 4-day span all he was able to accomplish was most of the top and passenger (lightly damaged) side. They had to change course and go with mostly conventional body repair, which means spot welding on pins and pulling out dents with a slide hammer... and a lot of fresh paint. Booo. This change the total cost but didn't have that great of an impact.. bringing the work from around $9200 to $9900. Car is supposed to be ready this coming Friday.

UPDATE 9-13-11: Car still in shop, since 8-19-11. Shop claims that some chrome roof trim pieces are on long-term backorder and they cannot finish the job. While that may be true, they are not looking that hard for those parts, only using the local dealer. After nearly a month in the shop, I feel that they should be expanding their search nation-wide.

I've asked them to email me the specific part numbers. If I can locate them, I will purchase them and have them overnighted to the body shop. So, do any of you have a great resource for parts?? Maybe I can have better luck than the shop, since I am a little more motivated than they are... :mad.:
