Botched Factory Tint ?

can you feel an edge to the film? Roll the rear windows down and do you notice the edge where the factory window is and the aftermarket tint is? If so, it's just aftermarket tint installed on top and you can just pull off the tint yourself slowly and clean it off any remaining glue residue off. I'd rather pull it off myself because otherwise they'll just rip it fast and always the chance of ripping too fast not caring and damaging the window defroster. Just saying it's easy to do yourself and then you'll feel all better tonight instead of having to deal with it tomorrow with your dealer and have some kid ripping it off.

^^ Nope, there is no edge to be found. I have an after market tint on the front and there is a 2mm space between the tint and the edge of the window, the rears windows are tinted all the way up to the edge, I can't see any traces of after market job, if it was done, someone did a great job in hiding it.

hmmm wow...the absolute best tinters will bring it to 1mm but not less because then you substantially risk it getting caught and ripping off tint or causing issues over time from that, so if you don't even see a 1mm or even slightly less, than wow I'm perplexed.

If it's not tint, you sure it's not some weird dirt like small water marks that over time have really stained the windows? Maybe take some really strong cleaner and try ti get it off...maybe it will just wipe right off. I bet this is it because listen to this:

A few months ago I noticed that my headlights in some places were tinted and other areas not so much and had a ragged edge. I was absolutely convinced that my tint or the black paint was peeling from the inside of the headlights (the FX50 has darkened headlights/tailights). I took it to the dealer and they confirmed it. When I got the FX50 back they said the mechanic took a look and was convinced that it wasn't actually tint peeling or anything and had the car detailer have a wack at it. So the detailer buffed the headlights and they came out brand new....they actually got those spots off.

After thinking about it longer, I had put rain-x on the headlights, waxed it, and wiped it off. I bet the rain-x eventually caused that! I tried everything in my life to clean the headlights and it didn't come off that is why I was convinced, but then they buffed it and it came out like new. You may be having a similar issue!

Interesting idea but the thing is the car is less than a month old. This is highly unlikely with such a new car, no idea if it was there before or not but now that I started looking for it, I sure have found it. The rear side windows are not that bad but the rear trunk glass is bad. And I checked for aftermarket tint on the rear glass I can't find any edges or anything like that. I cleaned the windows from inside and outside just to be sure, and yeah, the more I clean them the more spots I see.:bomb:

There is no way you can get the dust spec like that in a factory privacy glass, which is regular dye glass(with no film or other coatings). I'm almost 100% sure that is an aftermarket tint(film).

even new cars can get water spots on them that are notoriously hard from getting off...new cars are left outside on the dealer lot and maybe a sprinkler hit your car worse than others, who knows.

by any chance are there any single similar spots on the front windows? maybe you are just not seeing them as easily because of the factory tint....tint will usually show a spot better.

is that picture from the outside or the inside? if your inside do you sitll see the spots?

I have after market tint on the fronts and there are no spots of any kind.

It's from outside. From the inside it's hard to tell...

Talked to the dealer, they checked the sticker that came with the car from Infiniti (not another dealer) , no after market tint of any kind. They were so sure of that , they sounded like they did not believe me at all that I see all kinds of air bubbles and insisted I bring it in for an inspection as soon as possible. I will take it over there maybe next week, too busy with other stuff. And by the way, yes some of the spots are visible from the inside, not as much as from the outside but they still are.

**UPDATE** Finally took it back to the dealer, yes the confirmed the car was not re-tinted and they will contact Infiniti HQ regarding an obvious factory defect and how to resolve it. But in all honesty I don't want to rip the car apart , might just have to live with it. Maybe they can make it up to me in some other way...
