Bored's exhaust - FX50S

I put the Borla in. Sounds exactly like I wanted it to, aggressive without it being intruding.

I'm having a bit of a rattle though and some vibrations, probably because the heat shield is pretty close to the H-pipe, so I might have to push that up a bit out of the way. I also need two more clamps for the rear section where the pipes connect to the muffler.

So far so good. Going to do the clamp work tomorrow, and get some more bolts tightened and see what I can do about that heat shield.

Glad you like the sound. You may want to think about converting the clamps to flanges with gaskets. Let us know how the rattling is solved!

According to some research on myg37 and some other forums the rattling could be caused by a few things.

1.) Pipes too close to the heat shield
2.) The clamps don't seal properly, so I might have to get the pipes welded to prevent any leaks..
3.) The H-Pipe in the middle section may or may not have a little hole (this might be different for the Borla for the FX) that causes the rattle, in which case it would require to cut the middle section off and make the pipes straight, which I do not want to do.

Let's hope that when I put my car up tonight on the lift, I can solve it with #1. #2 is something I may consider down the line.. but I think the clamps will do a fine job. I don't want to do 3.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Btw, I think I'm going to be putting the old exhaust up for sale soon. If anyone wants it.

Turns out that the "custom borla" for the FX angles in such a way from the front flanges that it rubs up against the body of the car, which produced the vibration/rattle because they were rubbing up against the under side of the car. Went to an exhaust shop, they heated it up and bent it where the pipes were touching. Vibration/rattle gone. Yes, I put the pipes in right btw. The only thing I can't remember is if I put the H-Pipe on backwards or not (just noticed it in the picture). The exhaust has a more aggressive sound for sure, but the best part is, unless I'm really listening, I can't tell in the cabin. Outside of the cabin is a different story, which is fine with me. It should have been like this from factory.

I'll post up vids soon of the cold start soon, sounds so much more quiet in the cabin and the nice aggressive tone outside of the car. Feels a little TOO quiet from the muffler delete, and it's weird not hearing the exhaust inside the car after the muffler delete, but I think I'm going to enjoy this better in the long run.

sounds like an old stock FX45 now sort of...how it should have sounded from the factory. Subtle, but as long as you're happY!

Yeah, this is how it should have sounded, but it's all good. Looking to get those filters and the ECU flash soon so I can make use of the new exhaust fully. Any recommendations where to get that ECU done?

UpRev currently is no longer supporting the FX50 platform. Im still waiting to hear back from them (well, my tuner is, so I can get a re-tune) So you're kind of stuck with the factory ECU with no tuning until then. What you could do in the meantime is a quick "reflash" which you can do yourself by "playing with the pedal" There should be instructions on iS somewhere, just do a quick search. - this will be a soft reflash of the ECU, so it can retune itself slightly for the new exhaust/filter.

As far as the filters, you can buy them online easily from K&N themselves or another vendor. An iS vendor may be able to get you a deal.

I'll get a rev video up soon, just need to find someone willing to record from the outside lol

Any interest or demand for the old exhaust system with the muffler delete?
