Bodykit for FX from Europe

10.5 rub or no

Hi Ray

Im new to the site. I have a Black FX45 and Im thinking about going with your look. Have not seen anything like that out in the Washington DC area. I love the machine or alloy look versus the chrome. My question is how does the car ride? Will I have to get some bodywork done if I went with the 10.5? I've been advised to go with the 9 an 40s versus the 10.5 and 35s:cool:. Thanks

Hi and welcome on the :iS:

To be honest with you i did my fenders straight away before even mounting any wheels knowing i wanted to go wide on the car as i usually do.
The wheels had an offset of +40 wich i just as important then your width. Running a small width with a lower offset if the same outworths as a high width with a high offset. It's the combination that makes it work. I even mounted a set of 5 mm spacers to them both front and rear so in theory now running offset +35.

Can't really garanty 100% it wouldn't rub,but width the dimensions i'm running 10,5 and 285-35-22 i think it will even work on a stock body as the 285's stretch a bit inworths due to the 10,5 width ( They do not bulg).

Other things are also important to keep in mind. Tyre brand......each tyre is different and sits different as well. Some tyres strech and other bulg width the same size. Depends on the factory design.

Another thing is if you lower your car or not. When lowered the wheels will go a bit inworths to the body, that also helps optical ( that is why i mounted 5 mm spacers )but on the other hand your lower and nearer to your wheels for the technical part.

Final keep in mind....this is my own experiance as being a wheel and tyre dealer here in the netherlands. It really depends on to who you go to for your wheels. You've got cardealers.......big tyre firms who also sell some wheels.......and wheel specialists.
These last guys ( off wich i'm one of them ) have more experiance with " Extremer" things then these other guys. They often only want to sell you something wich will 100% fit without any issues in rubbing trembling etc.....but wich also often doesn't give the look your looking for.....far to brave....too small....etc....

Good luck and i hope this helped you to make a deccision

Great Info

One of the great things about forums are the "lessons learned". Im not going to get too extreme, but I want that classic stand out look. Im going to drop and get the 22s. Thanks again.

Your welcome...!! And for the record too extreme is not what i like myself. The size i run isn't that as well. Personally i wouldn't go for the 9" width though. If they have 10" 's that 'll work just fine.

Again...good luck ohh and uhhh mail me your aviator pic would ya...?? Want to see that in big if possible. Looks aggresiv

With the Spideros, the 22s only have 9 and 10.5. Do you think a 295/40/22 would be too big?

I think the exact diameter will be the 285-40-22, so the 295's will be slightly bigger but shouldn't be that big of a deal as the FX has plenty of space.

You see a difference in riders and their taste or look on how their fx should be. Some want to keep that 4 x 4 / SUV look and want the tires to bulg giving it the beefy look wich makes it all big. Don't forget the FX is a big car but not that big compared to other US cars.
I myself living in europe stand out a lot with the size of the FX, so want to narrow it down. Also i'm more of the "tuning" style with smaller looking tyres and all. Bigger looking tyres make the wheel look small (more little) than flatter tyres. That is why i choice the 285-35-22 and wouldn't take the 295-40-22's but that's just mee though...... :ever:

I used to live in Europe and I remember how driving was their. Yes I agree about the 4X4 look. So if the Spideros offset +40 and +35 or +30 gives you the flush look then spacers are needed. So it looks like if I get the Spideros I will be dropping it, getting the spacers, and rolling the fenders. Thanks for your help.

I would check it out first, cause when you'll get the 9" all around you wouldn't get any problems. As Ege has this setup also, and he doesn't have spacers yet and i like the way these wheels sit on his FX as well.

Keep in mind all that you take is often wider then OEM so already a gain....

I'm pretty sure I've seen that kit before and wasent too sure about it, but it really does look good! And those LED strips on the front are sick!
