body ecu module?

hey guys. saturday while driving the FX, i had all of my cluster gauges go dead and i lost the a/c controls also.

upon parking the vehicle, i could not get it out of "P" to move it... i located a blown fuse in the driver's side kick panel fuse box... i replaced the 10a fuse which almost immediately blew.... all i had left was a 15A which consequently (and sorta helpfully) caused a board to fry.

does anyone have a schematic for the wiring of where the driver's side kick panel fuse box goes. the chip/board that melted was located in between the nav screen and the cd changer.

i have a few pics of the damage, but, i won't get a chance to post them until later.

symptoms: no gauges read at all. gear indicator LED not illuminated. no a/c controls.

when the fuse is replaced, the "check engine" light is on, however, i didn't have the equipment to read it.

there's obviously a short somewhere in there...... i have done the LED swap and while i don't think that it's related, i cannot rule that out at this point. any suggestions? anyone see this before?

if your talking about the plastic box under the nav screen in the radio stack, that's the unified meter & a/c amp. the body ecu or the bcm is located in the left side kick panel right near the fuse box, but don't sound like that's your problem... you can get diagrams & even the whole fsm whatever from infinitihelp.com, I have the fsm in pdf but may be able to send it to you later but I have the 03, safer to dl your specific year in case there are any color changes in the harnesses..

get pictures of the damage, I'll try to help...

thanks Turbo. it's the unified meter and a/c amp. i was gone all last week from my normal work spot only to come back to find everything waiting for me lol so it's kinda hectic. i snapped a few pics from the cell phone and i'll upload them as soon as i can.

also, thanks for the guidance to get the schematics and offering to send me those, but, i can d/l those myself so no worries there. i'll post when i get a moment to breath and play.

just the bottom chip in the pic is burnt although it threw some heat around to the adjacent ic's.

wow, that's going to be difficult to diagnose... I mean I guess we have a decent idea what it powers because we know what is actually out, best thing to do would be to dl the diagrams, try & trace each circiut & check them seperately, you can power each circiut individually with a small fuse in line to see which may be overloading the circuit... far as repairing the board itself that's a bit beyond my ability as far as identifying the components for replacement from just this picture but maybe clean it up a bit & get a good shot might help, looks like a transistor. maybe can be replaced if identified but I'd think that a new unified meter a/c amp may be needed, but of course the problem has to be found to avoid a repeat performance of the smoke signals... I'm surprised that only going from 10a to 15a would allow the circuit itself to burn... do all of those chips look the same? if they are may be easier to identify it...

once i get a chance to get everything in order, i'm just going to trace it backwards. if i can find out from the schematics what exactly runs to that IC, it should be fairly simple to repair (in theory). as far as the board goes, it appears to not be damaged other than the chip itself, so the hardest part is actually just sourcing out the part itself. i can swap whatever is necessary out at work no problem......

it was weird also that the 10A blew within 2 seconds and that 15A never even went - granted the chip opened up fairly quickly, but, still lol.....

worst case scenario, the board seems to be about $330 which is about half as much as i expected if i can't fix it. it sucks, but, it isn't the end of the world.

also, the chips are all the same. even with it being charred as it is, you can actually read the number on it still and it matches the others that are on there.

cross fingers!!!

wow........ it's been 6 weeks already lol. i finally got the chance to look at the board yesterday and it's toast so i'm going to have to order one from infiniti.

i'm also going to have to maybe subscribe to infinitihelp so i can get more than 2 downloads per day. the last 3 days i've dl'ed pdfs and they're not what i need.......

oh well. i'll keep posted when/if i get progress. i love the FX but if it's going to turn into a massive $$ project, i'll have to start weighing options. a new Camaro SS sounds pretty fun right about now!

I had a similiar problem. I found that when I switch over to the LED bulbs for my DTRL, they were causing issues. The 10a fuse will blow, and the dash, and gauges will go out etc. Once, I switched back to the OEM bulbs and replace the fuse I was fine. Next week I'm planning to switch from the CCFL to the LED Halos that "marus" made, but to cover my ass to put a fuse between the LEDs and the DDRL for safety precaution. I never had a vehicle that was sensitive to the type of LED bulbs but there is a first for everything i guess.
