true I remember a time it was raining and I did the same thing I looked in the mirror and didn't see anything and when I changed lane the car was like right there, got me too. I now look and double check the blind spots are crazy but I love the car soooo much it dont matter. just keep checking and check again before your mind is made up.

You sure do start a lot of threads. Anyway...
+1

If you properly adjust your mirrors, the FX has virtually no blind spots. Lean your head against the driver's side window and move the driver's mirror left until you can just barely see the side of the car. Next, position your head over the center console armrest and move the passenger side mirror right until you can just barely see the passenger side of the car. Position the rear view mirror so you can see out the entire rear window.

Most people have blind spots because they refuse to follow this easy method. It feels odd at first having the mirrors adjusted so far out but you will quickly realize the benefits.
agreed. same thing. I turn my head on the side I want to shit to real quick.

I have a provisional license, got the car in June, my dad paid for it but they have their own cars. And i'm a very experienced driver don't get me wrong, i've driven in snow, ice, rain, wind on the freeway and heavy volume. So far, accident free, no tickets but speeding with caution, keeping it defensive.

please dont feel like this is a flame.
But, how much experience can you have when you only have a provisional license?
experience comes with time and practice, just drive safe. There was a horror story here about a teen with a BMW....ran out of road... tragic.

But if you had some sort of racing instruction and road race experience that would help allot. Still need to read other drivers minds sometimes....

enjoy the ride:rolleyes:

well, since you didnt know what the ABS felt like, you couldnt have had that much practice. yes, the BMW story always gets brought up with young kids. anyways, i am young myself, and i have seen other people my age drive at a driving event i go to. lets just say that i had been to one before, so i had no problem with the skid-pad and emergency lane change maneuvers. some kids, well lets just say there was alot of cones getting run over, and alot of 360's. i feel like you learn best from experience, as in something bad happens (or almost happens) and you learn how to avoid it in the future. i learned about alot before i even started driving myself. like watch out when the power goes out and the lights are flashing, people sometimes run the stop light and will hit you as you are exiting the intersection because "they couldnt see you coming behind the large panel truck next to them"

Considering you have a provisional license, you might want to rethink some of your high speed runs you have posted about. A cop may not be as forgiving with what he perceives to be a rich punk with just a provisional license, besides the fact you do not have much experience behind the wheel. I do not think you quite understand how quickly something can go wrong on public roads. Plus, an experienced driver knows what ABS feels and sounds like.

And moving to the far left lane immediately after merging onto the freeway is not defensive driving, especially when you do it so quickly that you do not notice adjacent cars and you cannot/do not turn your head to look. Nor is "beating" a Cayenne.

Step it down a notch or two if you want to continue enjoying your FX. Your posts indicate you're a typical teen driver: overly confident and inexperienced.

Mike,

Sometimes you don't have to drive like a douche bag just to be cool. Okay...I understand how it feels like to get a quick car when your young. It's exciting, I know. But for gods sake keep it safe. You say your experienced driving in terrible weather and what not. Bottom line is, that don't mean shit. By the things you say and describe how you drive, your mentality is like the little shit that totaled my last car when he sped up to beat the light. Stupid kid was driving a new BMW 3 series and was cocky as fuck when he got out.
Please, drive a little more responsible before you kill yourself or worse somebody else.

...and as for your little ABS question...

LEARN YOU SOME...

your "experience"can kiss my freckled ass

lol.... this thread is funny.... I can see how a 17yr old without any accidents can percieve themselve as driving god because a lot of their peers had previous retarded accidents.... but then I had a friend in HS that totalled like 3 or 4 cars in one year and still percieved himself as an awesome driver.... beats me why he'd think that but yah.... experiance is not something you can build in only a year or 2 simply because not much crazy situations can happen in just a year or 2..... funny how you didnt know what ABS feels like though.... maybe the FX has much better traction but i'd still think it'd kick in sometimes going down a slippery hill on a rainy day to a stop light

driving in the wind is scary shit sometimes when you going highway speeds and suddenly a gust of wind just knocks your car around and might even cause the car to change direction which you'd have to correct....

thick pillars hiding pedestrians is hella scary too hahaha I guess having those thick front pillars give more structural integrity but it does cause a problem with the blind spot... had the same problem in my frontier but the murano not so much....person just magically appears out of nowhere and makes you hit the brakes....

sometimes i feel like i have OCD the way i check my mirrors and blind spots before i go ANYWHERE on the highway. People must think i'm nuts bobbing and weaving all over my interior to make sure the coast is clear. i can vividly remember when i got my license, i'd drive my mothers mercury sable, and just take a quick glance in he mirror before jerking the car into an adjacent lane. now a days it freaks me out thinking about pulling such a stupid move. luckily i never hit anyone as a kid, but i would say that it was probably 50% luck that i didn't.

I am currently 20 going on 21. I have been driving since 15. I "thought" i was an experienced driver.
After 2 Tix (85on45, 85on70) and a couple of warnings + insurance rate
+
1 Car Front collision(near totaled car) + 1 spin out on a wet road (360ed to the other lane, after jeep jumped the curve)

Learn my lessons.
Take it easy. I have been there, I still drive my FX hard but am no longer careless.

abusing your brakes wont activate ABS. it only kicks in when you are braking and the brakes lock up so you start slipping. they even come on if you are braking and hit an imperfection in the road. it keeps you from sliding past the point you wanted to stop. ive done it on wet roads, and really felt it for about 20 feet as it brought my tahoe to a stop at a yellow light, and then one time just braking to turn left on a hill, also in the tahoe, so weight was most likely a factor. i too have had issues with the front pilars blocking things. the only wreck i have had that was my fault was when i was making a left turn, also in the rain, and just as i get around the turn, i realize some guy has stopped with his blinker on waiting to turn right (before the right turn at the next intsersection that is about 50 feet away) maybe 15 feet past the intersection. well, tahoes dont go from 20-0 in 15 feet in the rain. luckily i just kinda slid into him so it wasnt very bad. my bumper is back about an inch one side, and i paid for his bumper to be repainted. that was a year ago, last thanksgiving. dont go through that intersection anymore since we moved, but i had been through that turn 100's of times before. next time that someone stopped to turn there, i was ready.
