Black FX50s - Exterior Ideas

Hey all,

Just installed white LEDs all around the car, and they look awesome. Very nice touch, and very elegant. I will definitely post pictures when I'm able to.

I had an idea, I wanted to get your opinion on. I have a Black on Black 2010 FX50s, with the Charcoal Grey in my headlight housing. I wanted to accent off of that charcoal grey a bit, and well.. I'll let you read my idea for customization

I was planning to paint the main grille (the squiggly part) black, the same finish of the car. I was looking to accent that by painting the grille border, side vents, and rear infiniti chrome lines with the charcoal grey that's present in the headlight housing. I was going to leave the infiniti logos and the FX50s logo in the rear, and the window trims all chrome. Just wanted to get your suggestions on how you think that'll look, and whether or not I should just get the logos and window trims to be charcoal grey as well?

These would all have a glossy finish to them, rather than the matte-ish type that's in the housing.

Going to get my front windows tinted tomorrow to a 30%

Ideas from you guys?

Don't black out everything just do the whole grille black obsidian like the rest of the car and the border of it too. Don't do the border of the grille in a different color it will look weird I've seen it done before. Leave everything else chrome or do a gun metal color. If you do everything black there will be no contrast at all.

By the way the headlights aren't charcoal. It's actually smoked chrome so if you want to go with that color scheme that would be good too.

I'm not a fan of all black at all! It's just not me, looks tacky eventually.

That's what I was thinking about as well Aaron, I'm glad you chimed in. All black grille, and do a gun metal color to everything including the logos? Everything would include the door handles too. Or should I keep the logos, and window trim as chrome? I wanted to accent using the headlight housing for a uniform look.

Oh and I need to get rid of the ugly roof rack.. 2 bars running across the roof, not the actual silver railings. You guys think it'll look clean if I were to gunmetal logos, vents, window trim, door handles, and back logos, or would it be tacky?

I would do all the trim like the vents, roof rails, door trim in like a gun metal. Sydney a member I here has the same color and did gunmetal accent pieces.

Definitely saw that, but I want mine to be a little less "gunmetal" looking than his, and more of the type of color that's in my headlight housing, kind of the chrome-y gunmetal look. I like the fact that he didn't do anything to the logos or the window trim, but I don't know if I want to do mine, or just do my vents, door handles, and rear chrome. I need to try some photoshop work..

Such a hard decision. Got the front windows tinted to a nice 30%. I'm sure the factory tint on them is 90, because mine was a tad dark to look out of, but it may have just been me. Still looking for a place near here to do the grille in the obsidian black.

I'm so on the border of the gunmetal accent pieces because the lack of people that have done it, for some reason the chrome just looks good on the black car too..

Question: Does lowering the car affect the ADC (Active Dampening Control) system at all, and does it void warranty?

Tint is always the first mod, best return for the looks. Btw, the lower the % the darker the tint; it indicates light transmission. Factory is around 15-20%.

Lol I know that, the % means that it's how much light is passed through. I was referring to the factory glass tint on the front windows, because they do those very lightly too, to my understanding.. and that's what I was referring to.

I think automakers tint their front windows slightly at a 90%-95%, but its definitely not clear glass.. so in addition to the 30% I got, it should come out to a 20-25%... I think :sluggish:

Most OEM glass is 70-85%. Did you specify 30% to the tint shop? When I had mine done, I just had my tint guy sample different ones until we matched it. It ended up being 20%. But second gens may have a different level of tint on the rear window.

I have two black 2012's -EX and FX. Finished with the EX now starting the FX...some nice options out there.

I find it best to photoshop it first before changing the color of anything. Even if a bad chop - you will get an idea of the overall visual of the changes.

For some reason, the app I have for Windows Phone didn't work and post the messages I typed up.

I ended up getting 30% done to the front windows. It's light enough not to be noticed by the police, but its dark enough to have a nice look. Definitely posting pictures up soon. The beast is in for some TSB service, but I should be getting her back today.

I think I may need to end up using photoshop soon because I was contemplating a gunmetal-esque grille to accent, but then again I was also contemplating a metallic black to accent with!

I think, if done right, the same type of charcoal color in the headlight housing will look the best, but not entirely sure on how well that'll turn out. And if it'll look tacky. I took a look at Sydneys FX, and even though it flows really well, I want a more metallic look to my gunmetal, like the headlight housing, rather than the flatter gunmetal.

I have some posted, I recently blacked out the grill.. working on figuring out what I want with accents. Been busy for me past couple of weeks..

So do you repaint the the grill skirts and such? or do u the parts seperate. What kinda of paint would u use on the front grill? is it costly? or more labor.

Sorry, i like to work on the car myself, i feel i learn and really can enjoy my enhancement to it.

I understand you like doing things yourself and I'm the same way, but I would never try painting myself anything on the body. Anything painting yourself it won't come out like a bodyshop finish can. I've tried it before. Unless you have access to a good compressor and spray gun.

I dropped my grille off at a bodyshop and paid $80 to have the grille painted in black obsidian (color matched). Here's mine:

The way I look at it is that we spent so much on these cars they deserve to be treated the best. I try not to cheap out on her on things that require professional attention.
