Best Snow Cables for FX's

They should fit they have a pretty large range of adjustment but I'd check with the supplier just to make sure.
Make sure to order the Z 579 model cables they don't use tensioners and the cables ride up on the tire more instead of over your rims. They used to have a link that named this model cables with wheel protection but I didn't see it there now.Just get the Z 579 and you will be good to go.

If you look at the pic you can see how the cable brackets hold the cable out from the rims.

I actually use truck chains and can haul butt without any issues. The only thing you have to watch out for with chains are extra links that can scratch the car.

Yea but if your lowered and wheels are moved outward with spacers or wheel offset regular chains most likely won't be an option besides if a chain link breaks you can really f%^$ your paint up good.Ever heard those cars going down the road going clang clang clang:tdown:

I'm heading up to the mountain tomorrow morning. I wish I would have seen this thread earlier, I just bought normal chains a couple weeks ago for about the same price and I can't return them until April. Waaaah, I regret my impulsive purchase, waaaaaah. :tears:

Yup, that's what happens when you don't read your iS daily, hahaha:tongue:

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm going to Yosemite this Friday. I ordered the Z579 chains. I don't anticipate needing them, but better safe than sorry. They're pretty cheap on Amazon too. After some promotional pricing, I just paid $72 for them. Autozone wanted $150 for some no name chains that probably would have scratched my wheels.

Yosemeti in winter huh? Nice
I need to get back there. been a 1.5 years, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Share something when you get back. & for sure some ROTM shots

AMAZING photos gto. I wish the pictures I take this weekend are a fraction as good. I will definitely take lots of pictures. This is my first road trip of many in my new to me FX.

Even better in the real. You been before, & in the Winter?

& that's with a point n' shoot! Love that lil Nikon

I've been there before during the summer when it's really warm in the valley. First time in the winter. I'm going to do some snowboarding and sledding at Badger Pass. The weather is expected to be really nice, but you never know in the high Sierras.

I'm bringing my trusty old Nikon D40 with me. I'll post definitely post some pics.

So my snowboarding trip to Yosemite was a bust. My daughter was sick the entire trip so I ended up staying in the hotel room the entire time. The weather was unusually warm too. These are the only photos I took, with my iPhone no less. Oh well.

Thanks for the tire chain recommendation! I just moved to Laguna Beach from Minnesota. I own a Corvette C6 Convertible and a FX35 AWD. I'm using my FX more than the Corvette, its great for hauling guests and my surf boards.

I plan on going to Big Bear a lot this winter to snowboard and I was unaware of the chain laws so I bought a set of the Z 579's.

AWD---Front most defiantly!
By putting them on the front you will be assisting the steering traction and control of the vehicle
RWD---Rear

On a side note I have never even had to put my chains on they are several years old and still new in the package.
With AWD and good tires I have pushed through 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow.
However you do have to carry them in your vehicle during the winter months in the Mountain areas.
just remember to slow to 25mph or less in Snowy Conditions.

AWD FX is not AWD all the time...
True but with snowy conditions when first accelerating it is AWD up to around 12 mph without the snow mode engaged and around 19 mph with the snow mode engaged. In conditions that warrant chains you should not be driving over 25mph.
So having the chains on the front of our AWD FX's is in my opinion the best place to have them installed.
Even in full RWD torque bias having them installed in the front increases steering traction as well as braking traction.
So I still stand with my opinion that the FX AWD should have the chains installed on the front.

The ATTESA E-TS™ (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system utilized on FX45 and FX35 AWD uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically transfers optimum torque to the wheels according to road and driving conditions. The system provides outstanding handling due to optimum torque distribution for front and rear SNOW MODE(50:50 up to 0:100). ATTESA E-TS™(Snow Mode) also provides high starting traction performance and smooth, stable acceleration, especially in snow-covered or off-road situations with a 50:50 torque split at standing start.

totally agree with MTN. last night i drove all day in unplowed icy streets and highways. The rear wanted to let loose when i gunned it but traction control kicked in and i could feel the fronts countering and grabbing the car back straight.
